the key word is "food".
get them used to associating yourself with food.
let them get a little hungry by not feeding right away in the morning.
when they are hungry, and you show up with food. they get accustomed to having you around especially at meal time..
stand close to the feeder so they have to get close to you to eat. it won't be long and they will not see you as a threat..

my guineas have walked between my legs and stepped on my toes..

they still won't tolerate being petted, but I am fine with that because I don't have any desire to pet birds.

Great!!
So howdya do it?
Is there a roost?
Where had they been roosting?
How did you home them to begin with?
How will you home them to this coop?
...heard that can be hard.
Sorry for all the questions
They have been roosting either in the half coop or the run to it. They all went in there last night. So this morning i went in there and caught them 2 or 3 at a time and carried them to the coop . I had the guineas in my brooder to start with, then put them in a tractor until i got the cedar sided coop built. The tractor was right next to the coop. I transferred them to the run and left them there until they were old enough to free range. I will keep them in the hoop coop for at least 2 months. The bugs will be freezing up anyway and we get to enjoy the peace and quiet while they live out in the woods!
Edited to add, yes there are 2 , 8 foot perches in there so they should be fine, and their feeder and waterer.

I handled mine when they were small so they are not afraid of me and generally come when i call them. Especially if they think they are getting food!

hello, not much chatter on here. everybody must have had a busy weekend.
well, I am never at a loss for words.

I bought two flocks of guineas about two years ago. came to about 30 of them.
full grown. they never mingled with each other.. so I had two flocks of 15 each.
when the flock dwindled down to just 6, I had 5 from one flock and 1 from the other. they did not mingle , even then.
the single one followed the other 5, but that was as close as they ever became.
for most of the late summer, I had 3 left.
yesterday, I saw only 2 . I would give them away if I could find someone who would take them..

today and/or tomorrow is clean up the yard day. I have a few things to move so it will make plowing snow easier.
have to build another dog coop. it looks like we will be keeping the one puppy we didn't sell.. he has attached himself to our resident. (we have a group home).
It is very good therapy to have a loving dog to take care of..
dogs are so non-judgmental..

got the table saw all adjusted, now I am going to go at my 4" jointer.
I am toyiing with the idea of a floor to ceiling set of shelves along the stairwell.
complete with doors..
I think I have come up with a very inexpensive door latch, (magnetic) that should cost only about a dine to make.
I will build a demo unit first to see if it will work..
I am also working on a hinge that should cost about only a quarter to make..

Good to hear from you, Jim. I was shopping for warm clothes and husband was busy burning a big junk wood and brush pile. Looks great where it is gone. Going to be a warmer day today, hoping to shovel sand into the run.
Sounds like good work on the hardware manufacture.

we got the yard all picked up and the lawn mower and big tiller put away. hoses dragged under the apple tree.
I should have no trouble plowing snow.
It would be nice if there wasn't snow to plow

I ran a couple test boards over the jointer.
It worked just OK. It was a bit choppy.
i don't think the motor is running at full speed..
I have to talk to my finance director and see if she will loosen up a few bucks for a
6" jointer.. 8" would be better, but let;s not push it..

I just heard this, better pass it on before I forget.

bartender to customer: "I see your glass is empty,
can I get you another ?"
customer: "why would I want two empty glasses ?"

good morning,
very overcast and a bit foggy here.
went to Fleet& Farm for dog food.
told Annie I wanted to check out their jointers.
She was fine with it. then I found out that F&F does not carry jointers.
I want a Porter Cable model.

Have to check with homdepo..

I know I can get one on line.. but I like to see and touch what I am buying. buying in a box or on line is like buying a pig in a poke

This will give me time to find a new motor for my Rockwell 4"..
the P C runs at 60,000 to 100,000 rpm.
variable speed.
I can just about see the cutter head on the Rockwell turning.

Wendy is going home this afternoon.
I will ask for a female puppy from her litter.

......jiminwisc.......

eta: I decided against the Porter Cable jointer.
found out that the bed and fence are aluminum.
I found a Grizzley for just a little more $$$$'s.
but it has a cast iron fence and bed.
it also has a 1 1/2 HP motor instead of a 1/2 HP..
still has 20,000 cuts per minute..
I have a Grizzley thickness planer. it has served me well for many years.
I got the OK from the BOSS to go ahead and build the floor to ceiling shelves along the stairwell ..

Wendy went home. I think I will miss her a little..

good afternoon, still foggy here, the temp is dropping so the fog will be gone and it will rain

I decided to tune up my 4" jointer and use it

I am not comfortable with the reviews I read about neither the Porter Cable nor the Grizzley..
at least with the Rockwell I have, I know what I have..
I will just have to make less aggressive cuts..
I found a motor start capacitor for my Bostich pancake compressor $16.oo + tax

and that is all I have accomplished today.

We found a restaurant that has a 2 Lobster tail special on Tuesdays. $12.98.. plus salad bar , dinner rolls and choice of potato.
makes us wonder how much another place in town can charge over $40.oo and no salad bar ?
