No covers, but I was thinking I will make covers for the new ones.
when I had hens, they used to lay eggs in the window wells.
The skies are getting dark here. looks like scattered showers on the way..

Did you get any rain?

yes. we got just a very small amount of rain.
It still got up to 81F..
I repotted 3 grape vines into larger containers.
I want them to have more roots before they go into the ground permanently ..
I think I have decided where to start a new compost pile. I have a space right in front of the garage. there I can push against the block foundation a little when I fill the tractor bucket for turning it.

Can anyone help with information on what material we should use to build our peachicks night time coop with? I am hesitant to use wood due to everything I've read about mites being a problem with wood - has anyone ever used hardy board, shower board or any type of plastic for the inside of the house? We are very new and building this with no experience. My husband is handy, but hasn't ever built a chicken/peafowl house before- I am somewhat holding up the progress because I don't want him to use wood for the inside- again because of the issues with mites and because wood doesn't dry easily when washed out...I'd like an alternative if anyone has any info we'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you.

Might be better off starting a new thread (click here) in the peafowl forum...not sure peafowl and chickens should be housed together.

good morning,
I went to HomeDepot to buy a weed trimmer.
they didn't have the one I wanted .
to put it mildly, HD needs to hire someone with people skills. I left the store angry on my last three visits there.
I have to go back again. I ordered online to have it dropped off at the store. Not looking forward to that, but there was no way around it.

Call their corporate office and let them know the issue. I never worked for or with HD but I did work 35 in retail and corporate is usually more reactive than an individual store.

Had a bit of a storm on Sunday night. lasted only about 15 minutes. no damage, Sent it to Art, figured he could use the rain. 1 inch in 15 minutes..
Storms like that are impressive.

New place is ready to move into, not everything is done yet though. Still waiting on the skirting and the front fencing is waiting on the skirting. We spent a couple of days down there, did our initial walk-through, got to know our new neighbors a bit more, did a little fishing (DP caught a gorgeous fat trout about 20"!) then reluctantly came back to Portland. I'd been worried the dogs would fuss but this was our second trip to the new place with them and they did great!

Boots, glad things are coming together.
after you move in, keep the pressure on them to get things finished.
Annie talked to a guy that we know about coming to do some odd jobs that I can't do myself anymore. I worked with him on a few jobs. He said he would come in July. I told Annie that I doubted he would show up. He didn't....
I am feeling better, so I might just attemp a couple of those jobs. Annie's brother said he would come give me a hand if I needed it.
Penny, go ahead and build your coop out of wood. You are going to get loads of paranoia from reading on byc.
just learn to deal with any malady that the birds come up with. you will never be able to prevent them all.
My peacocks preferred to stay outside all the time. when it got to -10 F, I forced them into the chicken coop.
If you are not going to let them free range, build a large fly pen out of wire for them with just a 3 sided shelter up high in a corner. put a roof over that part and they will be just fine.
I wonder if I can find the pictures of the ones I had. hmmm..

ETA: I do have a couple of pictures in my Album Page here on byc. just click on my avatar and then select Album Page.

So on Tuesday, DP is taking the cats & dogs, scratching posts, kennels, pet foods, her aquarium, her mattress, all the plants we can shove into the rental van, and tow the Corolla to the new house.

Wednesday, the moving company is picking up everything else, and Thursday they deliver everything to the new place.

I'll be staying at the old place to keep the yard and garden watered and otherwise maintained until the season changes enough to not need care or the place sells, whichever comes first.

Fridge and oven are staying with the house and I plan to get a good cot and sleeping bag so it won't be necessary to get a motel so money saved there.

Depending on how long this takes, we might take turns in Portland or most likely I'll stay in Portland and then make a couple 2 or 3 day trips to visit the new place. Not ideal I'd rather it is me staying in Portland than DP. No television, but I'll have my laptop.
