Helpful hints for building coops

We are slowly amassing building materials for cheap by driving all over for a deal. Went out to MS for roof trusses from an old chicken barn that was getting torn down.

I actually hit up a buddy who tore down a house and has bunch of salvage wood, might get some wood from him.

I did squares and when I came to a philips, I called him over to take it out. when those little X's get walked on and filled with dirt and dried concrete, he soon understood why I was against them.

Squares can get filled too, and are harder if not impossible to clear them.

Any type of screw is better than the flat slot ones they used to make! Hubby bought me a bunch of the squares, and I liked them well enough. Used them all up.

I agree, when I built my house way back in 1965, I had to screw down the underlayment with flat head screws. a screw pattern of 6" x 6" . Never again..

Tho there are still true wood screws with slots.

good afternoon.
I got the new/used ax all sharpened and ready to go. I had to go out to the tool shed and find
a better file.
I have some diamon cutters somewhere. After the garage cleaning, I can't find a thing. Stuff got put into tool boxes. Now, which tool box are they in ??
It doesn't help when someone else stores them away..
Next I have to try to locate my antique hatchet.

Found the lumber I wanted for my vent baffle project!
2 lengths of 1x4 purlins bolstering the auxiliary run roof where I can't keep it cleared of snow. Replaced them with some aluminum channels salvaged from an old ruined hot spa cover.
15 mins of some wire twisting and done!
Love the re-purpose finding of materials needed without leaving the 'stead.

I have been closing in the old Turkey Coop to use for my roosters. And today I put sand in the run. One whole side of this coop was open, so I installed two shower doors up top and two windows. Next I finish building the door.

The boys thought it was a day at the beach!

In one of my coops I have a shower door as a fixed window. I used the shower door track and rollers to make sliding doors for the brooder coop.
