I don't care too much to travel, and it is still nice to not have the livestock anymore. we have a ferel cat hanging out in the garage. Annie just bought 25 pounds of cat food. I guess she is confident that Tom is going to hang around for awhile. lol
31f this morning, that's the warmest morning temp we have had for a month,.
I made my first banana bread,. it wasn't a complete disaster. I gave it about ten extra minus in the oven, but it still had a small soft spot in the center.
the venison sloppy joes were a complete success, though,.

What size lumber do you use for poop boards? I just use the deep litter method.

Same here - I just put a four-inch or so layer of straw or mulched leaves on the floor to catch all the poop. Once it gets too poopy I just muck it out for compost and replace with new material.

One modification I will be doing is to re-position the perches about a metre away from the walls, so I can easily get behind them to muck out the soiled straw.

I positioned my roosts with the lowest pole toward the wall and the highest pole farthest away from the wall. i have a large window in that wall facing south. the chickens liked sitting on the roost and letting the sun shine on them in the winter.
I could muck it out all the way to the wall even with chickens on the roosts.

yesterday I made 5 pints of strawberry jam.
I followed a recipe that said to use equal amounts of berries and sugar , by weight.
Man,, was it sweet. so to day Annie worked her magic and came up with a couple packages of strawberries. I mixed the whole kit and kabootle and desweetened the jam. I ended up with ten pints. i will water bath it tomorrow.
our snow is not melting much. tomorrow looks like a promising day with the temps in the 50's.

Enjoy
I found I didn't care for traveling and got the poultry again a few years after retiring.
I have /do both. 2 of my neighbours like to chicken-sit if we want to go on a trip/vacation.
They like to travel too and have animals I take care of regularly.

We do make it easy for each other with feeders /feeding that only needs attention once a day. My chickens have an automatic popdoor.

Costs nothing but a small thank you present. Like a bottle of wine or a jar of honey.
And I always get special treats from them too depending on the trip.

Yes this is why I avoid jellies and jam.
Glad she found some to add to it
