Helping Beat The Summer Heat

That's it! you can buy more than one and they hook together. my chicken lot is 20x20 so this one fits good. I let them out of the lot about 8am so the can free range but up in the day I turn on the mist,it uses very little water.

Frozen juice bottles. I have a freezer full in the garage. I put a few out and they sometimes lay near them.
I put one in their water bucket, lasts alot longer than ice to keep water cold.
I put a wading pan out today too, only one got the idea and was actually standing in it (might put a frozen water bottle in there to keep that cool too.
Good luck!

Great ideas everyone....I started a mister today, had a hen die yesterday not realizing that the heat will kill them sometimes....Tomorrow will be adding frozen jugs (in the freezer tonight) I like the wading pan too, think I'll try that also. My problem is I have two broody hens, who of course won't leave the nest. I have a small container of water that I will refill throughout the day in each of their nests, hope this will work. Should I also get a vitamin mix or something to put in their water? Is there something that I can add that will help these two broody's make it through this heat? Or is the water enough?

How about one of those small personal fan? You could clamp it to something inside the coop to blow on them from a distance. The fans can be found at TSC

My chickens love having their fans. The only problem with mine is it is small and the rooster gets a bit excited and then steps on it. I guess I could zip tie it on the wire.

Plain old mud hole works. I just turn on a faucet for awhile & the chickens love standing in a mud hole. I also have bowls under my A/C drain & my ice maker drain the waters cool & they have extra water stations while they range.

My chickens love their wading pools. For one I just cut the bottom off of a 55 gallon plastic barrel. The other is just a spot in the yard where the lawn makes a shallow dip that I let the hose run and fill up. It's right infront of the coop door so they all walk through it as they come in and out.

My birds love their misting system! Took them a couple days to get used to it/figure it out that under it was the place to be, but this morning they all ran to the misted side of the runs like crazy, as soon as I turned it on. :D
