hen acting "funny" - WTH is this?

I usually pluck feathers because it's so hard to remove eggs. I try to pluck only as few as seem really necessary, & avoid ones that are newly grown & very sensitive.
If you only trim a feather, the chicken will not start regrowing the feather until its next molt.

If you are eating eggs from your hens I would think twice about using flea drops or any kind of chemical treatment on them. Maybe the garden dust that you can use for chickens (not the Sevin dust). But there I would carefully read the directions to see if they reference eating eggs. WE don't seem to have a lice/ mites problem, except for scaly leg mites, occasionally. Our flock free ranges and has access to dust all the time..on the barn floor, and outside, of course. We sometimes supplement their dusting holes with wood ash or DE. If your chickens are in a coop, I think the best solution is just to make sure they have a dusting box available for their use at all times.

ChickensAreSweet: I will try the unrefined coconut oil (just happen to have some). I don't want to cut the feathers as sometimes it takes 6 weeks for them to grow back and since it's show season I don't want to take the birds to the show with missing feathers - Judge definetly wouldn't like that I'm sure

Harry: I will try one of those combs, but the eggs are on there pretty tightly. They are almost like glue. I felt like I was about the pull the feather out. I'll try the coconut oil and then maybe the comb. **** bugs.

apparently the coconut oil can take some days to do its dissolving so be sure to give it some time
