Hen cant walk

Can anyone answer? Should hear back from vets office this am and would like to know which way to go with this. Thanks.

I had her to the vet recently, unfortunately he does not know much about chickens. I had two of my chickens to another vet in the spring and it ended up costing me $250. I cannot afford to get ripped off again. I have my regular vet who will give me meds when needed and helps me any way he can. He just doesn't know enough about chickens. I have to draw the line somewhere. So I have to rely on his help and your knowledge and do the best I can to get her through this. She has come a long way in her recovery but I realize she is still very sick. I ordered the nystatin and plan on giving it a shot, along with the baytril. Any additional advice is more than welcome.
Thanks, Kathy

Ok, so the problems continue. My hen seemed to be doing better. She has been off the meds for some time now. Up until about a week ago feeding scrambled eggs, greek yogurt and for a while a tablespoon of baby bird formula once a day mixed with food. The formula was recommended by a member on this site to help improve her body condition. I also gave acv in her water, 1/4 tablespoon in one quart of water. She also got small amts of applesauce in food. I tried several times to add very small ants of chicken mash, but she wouldn't eat it. She seemed to be gaining weight and is nice and strong. A couple weeks ago stopped the formula. About a week ago she stopped eating. Her poop is normal. I noticed her abdomen was slightly enlarged. Crop seemed normal. After trying just eggs, or just yogurt I decided to give her plain mash. All of a sudden that is all she will eat. Her abdomen has increased in size to the point she is having trouble breathing. She otherwise seems ok. What could be wrong now??????

to much of stuff is her problem. Over medicated, change in food, change in place. Use ACV with the mother in her food and water. Let it ferment for 24 hours before giving it to her. Keep up with the yogurt and eggs until the fermented feed is ready. Than introduce it little by little. Add greens like sprouts.

She refuses anything but chicken mash. The acv is with mother. Not sure what you mean by ferment it? She has come such a long way and we have tried to follow all we were told to do. I thought she was doing so well. What do you think is going on?

Apple cider vinegar with the mother.(found at walmart) Fermented feed is your pellets or crumbles or your grains wet down with water and ACV. I mix 1 tbs of ACV/M to one gallon of water. Add to 3-5 lbs of feed. Let ferment for 24 hours. dd the ACV to drinking water.

Sounds like her little system is over taxed. She needs time to recover. ACV does a bunch of good things, like reducing harmful levels of bacteria, and preventing algae, detoxification in some cases, and stripping the mucus from their systems, which also further improves nutrition and vitamin uptake, and boosts their immune system, and best of all? It can't hurt your birds, in any way. Ever. Its natural. next time for prevention of worms try feeding pumpkin seeds. For control of mites ,lice, and other pesky critters, try putting neem oil on roosts. Treat the area and fix the problems and let the birds recover as naturally as possible. Some drugs are so harmful to chickens. They swell kidneys, liver, and do some nasty business. Antibiotics treat a symptom, not the cause. Antibiotics/worming medication make it worse sometimes. If you give a sick bird the wrong thing it can go very wrong. For example..worms When worming your chickens, you kill the weak worms and leave the strong behind. They breed and make stronger worms. You reworm and you see fewer worms because the strong have gotten stronger. All chickens havee worms and so do we, use natural things to keep them at a tolerable level. The same goes with giving antibiotics. You create stronger issues. Harder to kill bacterias(if you even have any that were a problem you might awaken them).
