Hen Depressed - She Died

When I got home from work she had drunk half a pint of water/electrolytes.
I think she ate a tiny bit of mash, but she won't eat any now.

I took her out of the dog cage and tried to get her to stand up. But she is very weak and can't stand up on her own. I held her up and helped her do some leg stretches.

She is looking around and keeping her eyes open more, but she won't eat and she can't stand.

I hope that your lady pulls through. We lost one a month ago that was going through something similar. We thought that she had been eggbound, so we did the warm bath and dark cage set up. She appeared to get better, then took a turn for the worse about a month later. I found hersitting in her pen not moving (even when we opened the door to free range). When we picked her up, we could feel her breast bone. She was a buff orpington and was really fluffy, so we missed the weight loss. Plus, she never let us hold her. She didn't make it through the night... I am keeping my fingers crossed for your lady.

Sorry about your hen, it's so hard to know what's wrong with them. I wish they could talk!

I made a video of Honey. Of course, she decided to eat during the video!

At the very end I show some of her poo. It's green and really stinky.

I'll try tossing in my two cents, but I'm a beginner and my knowledge of chickens is *very* limited. First, you said her poo was normal and then later on it's green and stinky. Did it change? Have you looked at the poo link? If not, check it out.

Second, when was the last time they were wormed?

Have you tried feeding her yogurt or a probiotic? Like I said, I'm a beginner and I could be totally off base, but I recall people posting here have said that green poo *could* be a sign of something being out of whack with E. coli or other bacteria in the gut.

Is is normal for a chicken to not lay for six months? That seems kind of long to me, there is quite possibly something else going on. But maybe it is normal, like I said, I'm still a beginner.

As for her not eating, she needs to keep her strength up. Whatever she has she will not be able to fight without strength. Try the search function here on BYC, there is a lot of good information, especially from Glenda L Heywood and threehorses on good foods for Honey to eat that will keep her strength up. Have you tried an electrolyte in her water? That might help too.

Good luck! Hopefully somebody else will jump in that knows more than me.

Have you checked her over for lice or mites? An overload can cause anemia, and I see that your hen's crown isn't bright red. It might be because she isn't laying, but it couldn't hurt to check.

I hope she pulls through for you!
