I wrote about a week ago about my 6 year old Australorp having sour crop. I treated that and it seemed to clear up, but she is weaker and weaker. Today she can't even raise her head. I searched this site, and I just can't bring myself to use cervical dislocation. My question is, can I administer something like Tylenol with codein that would help her pass away without pain?

well it is your choice and do you know that that works or that she will pass today for sure personally,I would let her pass without pain and I if were you I would use catnip because it tends to make them sleepy.and also what I do is make my hens a little grave so I can still be with them because my first three died young and I didn't want to let them go so I made them little graves.I don't know if you want to do that ,but it does help.

Sometimes the easiest thing for US is not the easiest thing for THEM. Cervical dislocation, or decapitation is instant and truly is the quickest and most painless for them. Using a killing cone is mildly tranquilizing for them. If it's something you really don't feel you can do, see if you have a friend or neighbor or family member who can do it for you. I'm speaking from experience from having done it badly early on based on bad advice. I really wouldn't do it any other way anymore. It is not hands off, which is less pleasant for the human, but it's kinder (really, honestly, truly) for the bird.
