Hello everyone. I have a splash ameraucana that is acting strange. She just stands outside and does nothing, and either she has her neck tucked into her or her head in her feathers. She is very lightweight but she has always been light. This has been going on for a bout a month. I think it may also be the cold weather, and she’s just trying to stay warm, but she is able to go into her coop, but she’d rather stay outside. I think I’ve seen her eat. She is also not roosting, but I put her up with the others. She’s not getting pecked so I don’t know what’s going on. Can anyone help me? She acts normalish when I go up to her but like in 5 min she goes back to being lethargic. She has no balance and can’t fly. My other hens took off a she tried to but she face planted. She couldn’t even jump onto the ramp to get into the coop. She hasn’t laid an egg in like 7 months. She was broody for like 3-4 months of that. I felt her crop and it felt like it wasnt there or it was very empty. I haven’t seen her poop for awhile so idk what her poop looks like. Thanks

I am so sorry! How old is your hen? Do you think it could be Marek’s Disease? A chicken with Marek’s will show symptoms for a long time, it is a “slow downhill” in a sense. Symptoms are loss of balance (paralysis in legs, wings, and even the neck), lethargy, and loss of weight. Bumps on the skin and a misshapen pupils or “grey iris” can also be symptoms.
Another possibility is a vitamin deficiency. I’ve never had any experience in this area, I’m just going off of what I can find online. I will be praying for your hen, hopefully it is nothing too serious.
