Hen just passed this

That is what you see inside the oviduct of a hen who has died from internal laying. Trust me, been there many times and know more than I ever wanted to know about internal laying. Your hen is lucky she passed it. Mine never have.

This came from just one hen of mine who passed on:

Thanks SpeckledHen. Now the big question. Do you know if the fact she passed it means she can go on laying or is she done for? Hmmmm....now that I think about it, the RIR hasn't laid for a few weeks and I assumed she was in a slow (indiscernible) molt. I'm now wondering if she wasn't laying due to this issue, so this came from her. Funny thing is, I've got hens dropping eggs all over the place today, like a flood gate just got opened.

I've had a hen begin laying after an egg peritonitis infection was kicked out by penicillin. That was Ivy. She laid a few eggs and from one of those came Fern. Then the problem started again. Penicillin was used again and in a few weeks she did lay one egg, then never laid another and slowly went downhill till she passed on. Her eggs never had any shell problems or anything, either. Ivy was the exception, though. None of the others ever laid again after the ailment started.

So so sorry. Its usually a death knell, if not now than sometime in the near future.

I too have dealt with way more of it than my heart can stand. My lovely sexlink had it. I have had an orp get it and pass.

And of course my little darling Dash, my little showgirl hen got better after antibiotics were forced, she lived another 8 months or so and she did lay again normally, but I had to almost forcefeed her calcium. Even then she developed it again and would have died a slow death. HER issue was mostly that she hated hated calcium in any form except cheese.

None of them were over 2 1/2 years old and one died from it at 11 months.

I am posting a picture of what my hen Trooper had removed by the vet during a surgery. She did heal up and laid a few more eggs after the surgery but then it happened again and this time I didn't get her to the vet in time and she passed on hence the name Trooper cause she was a fighter and lived a great life before and right after surgery. Now I wonder if your hen passed this does this mean she hopefully got all of the egg mass out of her. Can you feel her abdomen and see if it is hard. Now has she laid an egg since she passed this?

You can see the 2 fully formed egg in there. One had a shell the other did not. This weighed 2 lbs.
