Hen laying

My buff hen is sitting on a clutch of eggs during the day but won't sit on them at night. I'm not sure if she's brooding or what. Will a hen typically sit on her eggs at night or will she sleep elsewhere? Help!

Not sure why this is happening...I agree that a true broody hen will sit on her eggs almost 24/7 except for short breaks to eat/drink/go to the bathroom.

Welcome to BYC @CountryBumpkin0710! You should gather eggs everyday. If she's spending all day on the nest there may be another problem...she may be hiding from bullies, or not feel well.

Yes!...or sit on nothing all day and all night, truly broody behavior does not require eggs.
