Hen Not Being Active

make sure to add a nice massage :) good luck! one of my chickens hated it (even though it really helped) and another one LOVED it. hopefully yours will respond positively. keep us posted!
I bet she'll hate it - she was the worst struggler when we gave her a mite bath. Oh well, what might help might help!!!! Her bath water is currently sitting getting cold because I can't find her. -_-

If it is cocci, and you wait a week, she could be dead! Do you have a chicken sitter that can do the corid in their water? It needs to be changed atleast daily and more if there is poo in it as the poo will keep them in an over load of the cocci...make it hard for the corid to work.

Have fun on your vaca!!!

I really really want to stay home to be able to help her, but this is a once in a life time chance and we can't reschedule it - it would be unfair to my family. I just hope it isn't Cocci. I'm doing more research about it.

Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I vaccinated my chickens agains Cocci and Marks, I gave them medicated chick starter. Is it still a possibilty that she has it?

If it isn't Cocci, would giving them Corid harm her/them? Do I need to give it to all of them. I found 20% soluable corid powder.

sorry for so many posts in a row, but - one of my other chickens is now just laying there. :( cocci, you think? how long do I have to treat it?

I'm sorry I don't have any experience with cocci. I would treat for the worst at this point to avoid death while you're gone. Is there any one that is experienced that could take care of them for you? Can you call a vet? Oh dear I wish I could help more.

Yes they can still get both even if vaccinated!!! Marek's vaccine only stops the tumors from forming, and the Cocci, yes there too, they can still get an overload of it...especially if it is a strain that was not part of the vaccine.

Yes you need to treat all of them...powder is 1/2 to 3/4th tsp per gallon, liquid is 2 tsp per gallon. Change alteast, once a day. Treat for 5-7 days. No vitamins, no medicated feed, no treats, just their feed and the treated water. No other plain water...so they have to drink the corid water. Corid is great as it treats all strains. The 1/2 tsp for the powder is for a moderate infestation...that is why I started at 1 tsp per gallon.

I started mine on 1 tsp per gallon, as they were really sick and tapered to 1/2 tsp per over the 7 days. I changed out their water 3-4 times a day, as they kept getting poo in it. Their coop needs to be cleaned a deep clean...take out all bedding, clean with ammonia, seems ammonia kills cocci, bleach, not so much, and rinse really well, some use a pressure washer, I used a hose and a strong spray thingy attached. Let it dry, then add new bedding. I did this near the end of their treatment, and top dressed their bedding with straw, to keep them off the infested poo, until I got the run done, so I could deep clean their coop. If you have a run, that needs a cleaning too...Hydrated lyme, tilled into the soil, before letting them back out on it, once the lyme is down. I waited for the run, as it is new, so they went out, the last day of treatment...so don't have to clean that, thank the Lord!!!! I did add some of the treated water to some of their feed and made a mush, they LOVE it and it kinda jump starts them by getting the meds into them, and I had been dipping beaks for almost two days, before Fred's Hen's suggested the mushy feed. Only give enough mushy feed, I put about 1 third of a gallon in the feed for 15, 2 month olds, that they can eat in about 2 hours then remove ( and provide the regular dry feed) and that should get them eating really good.I only had to do the mushy feed with meds once to see a difference. On day 5-6 I still had a few runny poo's so mine really needed the full 7 days. I plan to wait now, for the recommend two week,s and then retreat, if needed, for another 7 days.

Hope your birds get better soon and you can find a chicken sitter that will do the meds for you while you are away!

You should treat immediately!!!! Do their water and try the mushy feed I told you about...if it's dark, use a light and they should get up and eat and drink, even if it is past their bed time. The mushy feed also helped get the ones that stopped eating and drinking, back to eating and drinking.

Best of luck to you all!
