Ive helped my grandfather with his chickens on short trips to his house my whole up bringing i finally baught a house in suberbs and he has given me 3 chickens. A mom and 2 approx. 4month old chicks. I suspect one may be a rooster. Can anyone give me any input? No cock-a-doodle-doo attempts yet and the mother has a very red face but im

Any help would be great! Mom is really red maybe why its so red? Tail feathers seem to be round and its very friendly! Any help would be awesome!

The hen is a Barred Rock. She is barred. She can only pass that gene to her male offspring. It is genetically impossible for that chick to be female.

Unless the father was also barred. But I do think you have a rooster based on how large his comb is. Do you have any other pics that include his whole body?

If the father was also barred, the chick would have male specific barring. Clearly not the case.

There is one wrench all of this. My grandfather hd a hunch that a 1 maybe 2 chicks that this mom was watching may not have been hers.. I just assumed "nugget" was the ugly duckling

This pic confirms that you have 'black sexlinks'. Barred hens bred to non barred roosters produce chicks that are sexable by coloring. The black and gold is a pullet. The barred (black with white 'bars') is male.
