[I bought four chicks hoping 4 hens but prepared for at least one roo. My chicks are four and a half weeks old. I'm pretty sure my golden laced is a rooster:(. Question... What about my Delaware? I think it's a hen but would love opinions...

Are you sure those chicks are 4 1/2 weeks old? They look older than that. I'm not positive, but I think it's rooster. If it is beginning to develop wattles, it is probably a cockerel.

I could go either way....the comb is not that big, and I've had hens with tiny wattles at an early age....so I am leaning towards pullet, BUT...

More concerning is the smudging between the wings on the back...that can be typical of the male pattern.

Waiting a couple of weeks and reposting will tell a lot more.

Here is a good sexing thread for Delawares

I would be interested in seeing pictures of them when you got them - as Bantamfan said, they look older than you think they are and we might be able to put an age to "little puff ball" that would set your clock forward a week or more.

Edit to fix name - wrong Bantam ;-)
