Hen or Rooster?!?!

Actually false. Some Easter Eggers might be Ameraucana, Araucana, or Legbar crosses, but those are few and far between. The vast majority are hatchery sourced, and not mixed breeds at all. Hatchery Easter Eggers just haven't been selectively bred to meet a specific breed standard. They are what the Ameraucana breed was derived from.
:goodpost:. It has been stated more than once that the Ameraucana Breeders Association caused the confusion. What is now called EEs was marketed by the founders as Ameraucanas . Until they had the breed confirmation and colors like they wanted them and no longer recognized the traits the EEs carried . Its standard practice in breed development .Nothing with it . Its just what breeders do.

There's a lot of misinformation about Ameraucanas and Easter Eggers but junebuggena is 100% correct. Ameraucanas were bred out of EEs. The vast majority of EEs are not "hybrids", they're more like Ameraucanas that don't adhere to the APA standard and don't breed true.
I disagree with they don't breed true . Mine do and I would not trade My EEs for any Ameraucana out there . Mine lay a lovely large blue egg . While my Ameraucanas lay a small to medium egg sometimes near white . The EEs lay year round . Frist to lay after a cold snap in winter and my best and most consistent layers . We gave some to a friend in the city and her husband wanted to know why they were blue and if they were ripe yet.:lau I have crossed Ameraucanas with my EEs hoping t increase egg size . EE's are IMO the better part of Ameraucana breeding . The roosters are gentle and the only ones my wife will go in the pen with . Lisa you have a lovely pullet that is very close to Ameraucana breeding . And if there is enough of the EE blood in her she will be a very good layer for you .

Of course some EEs breed true. Half my flock are EEs but if my EEs bred true AND adhered to the breed standard, then my EEs would be Ameraucanas. Don't get me wrong, they're my favorites, I love them and wouldn't trade 'em for anything!
