My hens had round worms so I wormed them about 2 weeks ago with wazine 17. Today she got in the nesting box and slept for about 30 minutes and has layed around in the woods all day or will just stand and fall asleep. I also noticed her cone is starting to fall over a little bit and the back tip of her cone is purple. Is she getting sick and if so what is it?

I found a page that mentions this but it lists several different possible causes, so it's hard to say.

The spa treatment almost always helps them feel better: http://hencam.com/faq/the-spa-treatment/

Try getting her to eat some plain scrambled eggs and maybe a bit of plain yogurt. If you have electrolytes [the powder or already mixed liquid] try giving that in the water. I sometimes use plain pedialyte and a little liquid vitamin B in the water if I don't have the electrolyte mix. The Nutridrench they sell at TSC is also something I keep on hand for when one of mine is ADR [Ain't Doin' Right].

Hope things turn out well!

Reread the postings here. I'm not positive but isn't there a follow up dose supposed to be given in 10 days?

Also I forgot to mention, but we got rid of the rooster about a month ago, and got a new hen that sort of bullies her, and she hasnt gone back to laying since then. also since then, i saw round worms in her poop so that was when i wormed her and i should do a follow up but i dont know what type of wormer to use. Also i went down to check on her this morning and she was standing in the pen sound asleep. This is exactly how one of my original hen started acting before she died.

Did you mix the new hen with the others earlier than 30 days? I've read that it's important to keep them separate for 30 days because they each have their own particular strains of bacteria, and they need an adjustment time to acquire the new environment's bacteria and have the old environment's dissipate.

No I didn't separate them for 30 days because my hen was so depressed and sad so we thought a friend would make her perk up a little bit, but the complete opposite happened. But the new hen didn't bring in the worms because I have had a hen die from the same symptoms my hen has right now

I understand - we can't always do things by the book. In a perfect world we could, but obviously, we don't live there. LOL Apparently, chickens just kind of have their own brand of bacteria mix that develops where they live, and when they move, they are moving to a place with a different mix. It's just part of life with creatures who poop wherever they happen to be at the moment. So, it's not so much that the bacteria they bring is bad, or that the bacteria they move into is bad, it's just different, and they have to transition.

Try the spa treatment and yogurt/eggs to start with and see how she does. I have no idea what I'm doing with mine half the time, but so far, every chicken that I've actively tried to nurse through a crisis has made it. The only ones I lost were one's that I didn't realize until afterwards that something was wrong. :(

To the best of my knowledge, you use the same wormer to get any eggs that may have hatched. You should do this as soon as possible as there is a time frame for a reason. The eggs hatch in about 10 days and they in turn will lay eggs if left too long so you have to do it all again. As Dawg53 told you on the other thread, it is possible for her to get a secondary infection. Worm her first and then see if she starts to perk up. If not, you will need to figure out what is wrong and how to treat.
