My Welsummer hen has some foam in her eye. What should I do with her? Is this from being attacked?

All she wants to do is sit around right now. She's also molting.

OMG! Poorm baby! What is going on w/our birds this yr? I have never seen a foamy eye before ~ an infection? a debris in the eye? WTH? I hope someone can help!
Unfortunately not ever having this happen before in a chicken I'd be taking her to my vet asap ~ but that's cuz waiting to treat a bird after they get lethargic is sometimes too late. I press my vet to see my chickens same day cuz a 2 to 5 lb bird succombs a lot quicker than a 15 to 50 lb dog!

A foamy eye can be a sign of a respiratory disease mycoplasma (MG) or a peck to the eye. I would clean the eye with saline or a clean wet cloth, and apply either Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin triple antibiotic ointment 2-3 times a day. If there is any sneezing, gasping, or noisy breathing, you may want to get some Tylosin antibiotic powder from Jedds.com and treat with 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days.

Wow! bless you on behalf of notabitail for your response!

Can we put the Terramycin directly in her eye?
I've never used anything but ophthalmic prescriptions directly in/around eyes so not sure about non-ophthalmic meds. If an infection is a cause some oral antibiotics may be needed but for myself I don't guess/diagnose infection causes w/o a vet visit.

Thanks!
I'm going to tag @Eggcessive to see if they can help more 🥰

I have plain Neosporin triple antibiotic ointment in my chickens eye that was pecked and injured. Not everyone has access to a vet, or the money for a visit. Terramycin eye ointment from a feed store is my first choice, but you cannot get that in some states. Neosporin ophthalmic ointment is what a vet would prescribe, and it is about $30-35 from my vet. But for a chicken I have had good luck using topical Neosporin. It is up to you.
