Hen with swelled face UPDATE: SHE IS ALL BETTER! pg 2

The swelling in her face has gotten a little bit better, but she has had diarrhea twice now and it smells SUPER bad! Is it possible the illness is just going through her system and she will recover? She has also laid 3 eggs so far in her cage, so I am hoping she is getting better.

Does she have any nasal discharge? Any discharge from her eyes? If so, what does it look like? Open mouth breathing?

she has like little bubbles coming out of her eyes. She is eating and drinking too. She is also separated from the rest of the flock. One of my other birds had the same symptoms 4 months back but she is doing fine now.

this is my favorite hen too, so I will be quite upset if I lose her. She lets me pet her beard and carry her around. This is what she looks like:

Does it mean though that the bird has this???? Someone was mentioning that it could be a sinus infection. I am not going to give up hope. Im going to just keep my eyes on it.

She keeps shaking her head as well. I dont know what to do. Help? She has been drinking but I dont think she has been eating. We have vitamins and electrolytes in the water too. Help?

Get Tylan 50 injectible and treat her!! There are many on here that will tell you to cull her and the rest of your flock....that's not necessary IMO.

Good luck with her!! She'll get better with the antibiotic.

To all of you people who said to cull her and the rest of my flock.... sorry, but you guys were WRONG!!!
I really have to thank Wild Chicken for the input. Here is an update with the sick hen.

Wild Chicken as you can tell suggested to get Tyson and use it for the sick hen. So, my parents and I were trying to wait out and see if the chicken would make it until Thursday because I didn't have school on Friday. Well the hen made it to Thursday, so after school my dad and I went to TS to get the supplies. We got home and I asked Wild Chicken how to give the bird the shot. She told me how she does it and recommended to search it in the google custom search box, which worked as well. After I found out how to give the shot, my dad held the bird while I injected the shot on the back right before the neck. At first I thought I stuck the needle all of the way through the skin and out the other side, but I guess I didn't or else she wouldn't be better. After the shot while my dad was still holding the chicken, I helped the bird drink some water w/ electrolytes because the face was so swelled up that the bird could barely see. On Friday, I went and performed at a jazz band competition from 7 in the morning until 10 at night, so I only checked the bird once I got home. The swelling had gone down a little bit, but she still looked the same. So today, I woke up, went downstairs to check on the chicken to find the eyes are clear with no bubbles and open AND the swelling has gone down dramatically to the point where there is barely any swelling left. I got the food and water out and shook the food and she came out and started pecking at the food and drank some water. She even made a chicken call which I have noticed is the call the chickens make when they cant find the rest of the flock. I then went outside to check the rest of the flock and the sick hens sister was even making the where are you call even though she has four other birds out there to be with. So THANK YOU SO MUCH WILD CHICKEN and to the other people for the support. And it shows that anything is possible...

You're welcome for the help Theron!! And may she continue to get better so you can put her back with her friends

There are many different opinions on this board and I have found that some are helpful and others not so much. I think it is unfair that immediately people tell others that they need to kill their birds without giving the other side of the story. It causes much heartbreak!!

Theron you will find a LOT of very helpful people on this board also, many of which will pm instead of publicly posting because there are a chose few on here that think their way is the only way
