Hen won't stand-UPDATE: About to inject Tylan, objections? (Pg. 3)

Oh, I like the adding flavor idea. Let me see what I have. And yeah, maybe warming it would help, too! Hmmm . . . I have her right here in a big box near me. I could try getting her to roost . . . She still doesn't want to stand when I pick her up and set her down again though, so I doubt it . . .

My chicken had a swollen eye, i got some eye drops for conjunctavitis from my pharmacy and put 1 drop in twice a day for 4 days and now shes great. It was that swollen it looked like it was going to pop and very hot.. Mine are also started tylon injections yesterday, my vet said they only need a 2 day course because there all sneezing...

Hi again! Well, our girl is still hanging in there. I've named her Opal, by the way. I'm worried about her, she doesn't want to drink or eat.

I gave her Tylan by mouth last night. She seems a little more alert, but other than that, I can't really tell any difference. I gave her sugar water with oats and vitamins in it, but she doesn't want it. I don't know. I'm going to try to force some food into her this evening.

I'm sorry to hear about your birdie, Tracy. I hope she pulls through!

I wonder if maybe Tylan, like antibiotics we take, can make her feel icky. Let's cross our fingers and hope that is the reason for the lack of eating and drinking and not something more serious. At this point I would do whatever you can to get at least fluids in her. Try and think healthy chicken treats too. You could dice up some grapes or give her plain yogurt. When one of my hens was sick I had to straw feed her (because I didn't have a dropper.) You aren't giving her the ACV on top of the Tylan are you? I read you shouldn't give both at once. Hang in there hun!!

Oh, I'm glad I didn't decide to give her the ACV, then! I didn't give it to her because I was just trying to get her to eat SOMETHING and I thought she might not drink if it tasted icky, I guess it's a good thing! Yeah . . . I sure hope that's the reason she's not eating . . . You know, I like your idea of straw feeding, I was trying to feed her yogurt off of my finger like a dummy, lol. Needless to say, it was a little slow going.

But what you said gives me an idea - I'll feed her yogurt through that needle-less syringe I used to give her Tylan, of I can. Should have thought of it sooner.

Anyways, thank you so much for working with me on this, it helps so much to have support and new ideas!

Aww...no problem. I love animals so I enjoy helping out. I really am hoping she pulls through.

Ah! Hey, guess what? Opal is eating!!! She's devouring a plate of oats right now!!!

Apparently the reason she hasn't been eating is because I had the oats in water to try to get her some liquids, which for some reason she still won't drink. Now that I've given her dry food again, she's eating like a pig!!!
