Hens Crop Not Empting at Night Please help

I have the Oxysol-62.5 "Oxytetracycline HCI Soluble Powder"
If she's not drinking her normal amount of water, there is probably no point in giving it to her. Is there any chance you can take her to a vet to have them look at her poop and crop contents under a scope?

She drinks well. I thought maybe do a three day on it, or maybe I should just not do it at all. The vets here charge way to much or I would. I know the antibiotics will kill off the good bacteria. I see that some people do both and stop the antibiotics and continue longer on the nystatin.

this is just my opinion but id carry on with antibiotics. my vet prescribed both together. also after the frothing vomit i had i thought it would be a good idea just to prevent any respitory infection brought on by inhaling any bubbly vomit.she may not have inhaled any but i aired on the side of caution. once antibiotics and nystatin are finished and shes well again you should give a probiotic to replenish her flora. some use natural yoghurt but i think you can buy powder to add to her water. x

FWIW, When I get a sick one, I always do the following:

1) Thorough exam, this often includes an internal exam to check for eggs or other blockages.
2) Dust with poultry dust for mites/lice, even if I can't see any.
3) Weigh daily on digital kitchen scale and record weights.
4) De-worm w/Safeguard for Goats/Cattle (Fenbendazole 100mg/ml) 50mg/kg by mouth.
5) If losing weight, tube feed ringers/pedialyte, then baby bird food with ringers or Pedialyte
6) If they are depressed, they are put in a warm, quiet place indoors with water and water.
7) Inspect poop.
8) Decide to give antibiotics or not.

If I have one that looks like it's about to die, it gets Baytril 15mg/kg for 5 days.

The antibiotics that get the most use here are Metronidazole, Baytril and Clavamox, but that's because I have young peafowl, turkeys and the dreaded disease, blackhead.

I guess if I were in your shoes and was pretty sure I was dealing with a fungal infection and not a bacterial infection, I would treat with the Nystatin, but I would treat orally to ensure proper dosing.

For me, weighing daily has been very helpful, since any weight loss is a cause for concern.

Wish I had some experience in treating fungal infections, but I don't.

Didn't your vet prescribe metronidazole? If so, do you know why? It seems like an odd choice and I don't think it's very effective against gram negative bacteria. Just curious... I use lots of it, but for different reasons.

She has breathed in some of the vomit a few times, I thought she was going to die. I'm going to pick up some probiotics pills. The vet prescribed the nystatin 2ml once day, I see some were prescribed 1ml twice a day. I haven't vomited her today. She hasn't been as blotted as a yesterday and the day before, she hasnt brought anymore up in last few hours. Her diarrhea is worse again, green and watery. I'm sure things are working its way through. I feel the dewormer seems hard on her, it started that night when I gave it to her before bed and with the flush yesterday.

How many mg/ml is your Nystatin? When I get back from the store, I'll see if I can find some info in one of my vet books on treating sour crop and I'll take a picture of the Nystatin page from Plumb's Drug Handbook.
