Hens Crop Not Empting at Night Please help

I can get the flucznazole in capsule form, however, I don't see how to administer it to her. It's in 150 ml capsules.

My understanding when the diarrhea is green, she not getting any nutrients, I hope she's getting nutrients. This is so frustrating. She must be sore from the diarrhea. I felt her crop, it's slowly going down, crossing my fingers it's flat.

Any thoughts about giving garlic?

We called a pharmacy and the Nystatin can cause diarrhea. She is still alert and wants to eat and drink. Hope tomorrow is a better day.

Is it capsule (with little grains in a gel coat) or caplet (compressed powder in coating) They' pretty huge? I know my chickens will gulp a larger item if I wrap it like in a layer of scrambled egg. If it's caplet maybe you can halve or quarter it--sneak it in to scrambled egg. And if capsules pull it open to sneak the grains of medicine into scrambled egg. But I know you're wanting to do the 10 day stint on Nystatin. I'd give that a good try first...and leave Diflucan for your next step.

It's been a couple days...how is she doing pwand? Hope all is well.

I wouldn't give her that much, the issue is how to take the capsule and split it up in the appropriate amounts to give to her, its not soluable, we had asked a pharmacist, he wasn't helpful. Thanks for the great info, I appreciate it. :)
I think that 150mg would be too much for a chicken.

You could open the capsule, count the little balls, put them in a 1cc syringe with a little water and give it that way. I know you said that they aren't water soluble, but maybe that would work?

My hen is doing much better. She has had three empty crops in the morning in a row. This morning I thought I could feel a slight gooshy feeling, however, I feel its because her crop has been stretched, it needs to tighten back up. She has thinned out comparing to the other girls.

I had made a decision to cut the Nystatin in half, .5ml in the morning and again at night. Considering she was having extremely watery green diarrhea, my gut feeling was the Nystatin that was causing this. I got up the other morning and the shower stall was covered in this liquid diarrhea mostly water. We had six days of this, so I had to take the chance in cutting the dose in half. There is no way she was getting any nourishments from her food this way. I also decided it was time to allow nature to take it course and took her out with the other girls to eat and free range in there run which is all dirt no grass, hay or straw. She wasn't long and she started to have fairly normal poops again. That night, she had normal poops mixed with slight diarrhea here and there, no watery. It still seems to have a ting of green to it. Probably the Nystatin. She loves it out side. We have been fighting this battle for three weeks and what I seen was my chicken deteriorating. She is much happier now being out with the other girls. Shes back to laying eggs again. That takes a lot of her energy, I was hoping she would have taken a break. I also did some reading about garlic and it does kill yeast and has been used for sour crop. I also gave her bits of cloves mushed in her food and a few pieces in the water. In the past I always have been giving my hens garlic cloves. They love it. Good to combat against worms as well. I feel she is on the road to recovery. I may finish off the Nystatin at the half dose until its finished, I will be keeping an eye on her poops. If all is well with it, I will finish it.

This is a battle I would not want anybody to have to go through. I believe it starts as impaction and whats been eaten spoils in the crop which leds to sour. I have had chickens for 10 years without having the impaction and sour crop problems. I see the mistakes that I have made which caused this. It so worth to prevent this which creates less stress for anybody to go through including the chicken, its not a battle I would want to fight again, many have lost this battle. Preventive is the key.

I did consider that, I even had purchased it. Wasn't sure if the little balls where the same size, however, we were able to get the Nystatin. If I couldn't have gotten the Nystatin, I would definitely would have taken it apart and figure it out.

im so glad to hear how well shes doing!

i agree they seem to do so much better outside with the flock, i think sometimes they give up a bit if they are inside too long.
so pleased her poops are improving and that her crop is so much improved.
it is an exhausting process, fighting this sour crop. i pray she gets better and better xxx

Thanks Shell :), I hope Bombie comes around soon for you as well. I'm feeling burned out from this, I'm sure your feeling the same and you have a young family as well to take care of.
