Her eye is tearing

Hi, I am not sure what is wrong with your little hen, but please don't let people scare you senseless!

Chickens are quite hardy little girls and at this time of year colds and sneezes, being left in a draft and the stress of moving can all knock their imune systems. It's like with kids, it's not always something scary, more often than not it something common and easy enough to treat.

I would really encourage you to talk to the man you got her from... eye infections are notoriously infectious so the chances are that if it is an infection she is not the only one, and he probably knows what is best to give her.

If she is eating and pooping and drinking and generally seems well in herself then I would not loose sleep over her.

I really hope you can figure out whats wrong and get it treated quickly and easily. Do keep us updated.

Best of luck, and welcome to chicken keeping... 99% joy, 1% poop and sheer terror

I didnt want you to jump to conclusions, however, if that had been a bloody discharge, time would be of the essence. Yes, if you had read the Chicken Health Handbook first, you would never get chickens! That will scare you to death. And I usually want to go to the least problematic conclusion first, then if that doesn't fit, consider scarier things. As I mentioned, hopefully, she just got something in her eye.

Well its both eyes....
How often should chickens come out of the coop??
Everytime I look out the window they are not out. When I go to see what they are doing they are sitting in a nesting box together.
Its kinda cute cause the one thats not sick watches over the one that is. Everytime I pet the sick one the other is standing over my hand.
Im kinda afraid shes going to peck me. Does it hert?
