Here we go a homesteading

Hello - my family and I currently live in the suburbs of Erlanger and don't yet have chickens because of neighbors and city regulations. We are looking to buy a different home in NKY that has some land and where we don't have to jump through (as many) hoops to raise and slaughter on our own property some of our own livestock, chickens being our first interest at this time. We are starting a back-to-Eden type garden this year and are hopeful that the barriers we have in place will protect us from surrounding neighbor's pesticides. Also trying to accumulate some basic gardening tools and hunting around for used ones (i.e., like a broadfork, etc.).
