Brooks ~ So sorry about your loss. I had two of my first 4 silkies I got 5 months ago get wry neck. I had no clue what was happening so I found sweet people on BYC and they taught me what to do. Both survived and now these new babies automatically get Poly-Vi-Sol in the water...not going to take any chances. I never knew how many things could go wrong with chickens. It blows my mind. Delicate little beings these chicks are. I can't wait to see those Silkies of yours. What a tough night. My single Araucana chick was doing fine since it hatched and then last night I heard distressed chirping and went it to find the poor chick having seizures. On its back and legs sticking straight out. When I rolled it over it's head actually flipped all the way over and was laying on his back. I tried electrolytes, vitamins and a mash (which it did eat) but sadly to say the poor chick passed away shortly after.![]()
On a good note, I woke up this morning to 3 more Silkie eggs pipped and one totally zipped but not hatched yet. I see movement so I know it is just a matter of time. The 2 pips from yesterday have progressed a little more but still no signs of zipping. Nothing on my Marans eggs so far.
They look like porcelains to me but I'm no expert. They are adorable and will be gorgeous no matter what color they are. Can't wait to see your new chicks in what, 21 days???hi cinders , yes i am mad ha haha , your pictures are so lovely i just love seeing everyones chicks . yes they are my first 2 that hatched i had 2 more but one was a polish . not sure what colour they will be yet ?? they were from a batch of 6 eggs could be white buff or blue ?? lucky dip![]()
Look at chick #2 hiding in the back, so cute. I love the rich brown in chick #1. Are they Partridge?
Omg I love this! Esp the chick hiding in the corner, lol.
This little guy is so pretty. I just love the coloring so glad this one made it. Do you have adults of this kind of chick? Would love to see a picture.
Two cute...(get it "two" "too"?
The very first chick I ever hatched had wryneck so I know exactly what you are talking about. You are lucky that both of yours survived. My little chick passed after 5 days of constant monitoring (I took a very small box, lined it with a washcloth and carted the box everywhere with me), Poly-vi-sol, Sav-a-chick and a home made mash recipe. She actually died in my hands. The one that died last night was actually having seizures and then the neck would swing back. I thought wryneck at first but this was something way more. The seizures finally stopped but it had very labored breathing and then passed shortly after that. They say that if Araucanas carry the double tufted gene it is a death sentence and usually happens anywhere from Day 18 to a few days after they hatch. I wonder if that is what happened to the chick?Brooks ~ So sorry about your loss. I had two of my first 4 silkies I got 5 months ago get wry neck.
