HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

Came home to a pip and a half? One has got a hole in the shell and peeping. The other is just barely a crack. Does this count as a pip? Oh it is almost exciting, trying not to "count my chickens"

I am so mad at myself right now. My #2 egg had pipped yesterday afternoon and showed no signs of anything happening until earlier today. It finally started making the pip bigger and as you saw it had zipped 1/2 way but then it stopped. The zipping was moving along very quickly too. After an hour of nothing I thought maybe I should help but decided not too. Big mistake on my part. I had errands to run this afternoon and when I got back there was still no progress. I decided to help....too late. When I peeled the shell off the rest of the way and pulled the chick out it was gone already. No clue why it stopped zipping. It had absorbed the yolk and everything inside looked fine. It's umbilical cord had even detached like it should have. I always try to let them do it by themselves but this is one time where I definitely should have helped. :he

Now the good news....2 more of the Silkies hatched.  A Black and a Blue. These 2 could start a chorus they are so loud!!  Right after these 2 hatched 2/5 of my Marans eggs pipped and one really wants out!!! Today has been one crazy day and it is only DAY 20. Looks like I am in for a very busy night.

Ahhhh my friend I did that with a cuckoo marans last night! I should have helped it but didnt - oh and all 5 eggs left had fully formed, drowned chicks in them. My humidity levels were too high :-(

Soory Brook but perhaps it had some disability... bad heart etc that made him stop zipping.NATURES WAY You said you didnt find a thing wrong and he was 1/2 done not stuck!
.Also your other with the fit...i think you might be right if he started off well some internal thing went wrong there for sure.Might very well be that gene.... pretty suspecious
You do great job on your babies
By the way i LOVE the adorable pics of your first babies.. Chick Calender poses or Xmas cards? I am getting ahead of myself arent I? HAs fall even come yet?
Love the back to back one though HAHA. Youir silkies sound like they are going great guns!!

What was your humidity at?

ALL OVER THE PLACE. I was using a technique that was recommended ie don't increase humidity until 1st pip. Thru the duration of the hatch humidity was pretty stable at round 40%. I had no water in there at all. Then I added. Tsp of water at first pip and couldn't get it up to 60% so I kept adding water ......ohhhhhh boy!!! Then I couldn't get humidity down and it was sitting round 77% !!! I was also reading humidity with a digital hygrometer which I think wasn't giving me an accurate read, but I was too far into hatch to change things :(

Forgot to say i am SOOO enjoying the babies ppl are putting up ..and the incubaor with the pips zips and arrows of Brookhavens . That is cool.
Some of the babies are so unique this time around ...mottled looking ones and tricolor seemed like ...love them!!!
