HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

Yeah, he was really upset and felt horrible. All the boys were crying. They love the chicks. I pooped the dead chick in the freezer, as it was pouring down rain, so we can have a chick funereal later today.
His impulse control isn't great, and apparently he decided on a whim to get the chick out yesterday, so I locked the brooder to prevent further accidents.
That's probably a good idea to lock it. It's rained all day here too and is just now at midnight pouring again.

just to let you all know my little chick 'nelly' has just passed away

Kay I'm so sorry. With every passing of someone's chick or chicken it just freaks me out. I don't want to lose anyone. Hugs to you sweet lady.

Kay sorry Nelly didnt make it.Are the others ok?I hope so.Losing little one is sad enough.y
It is nice to go natural on your chicks but coccidia is deadly to baby chicks.and really common from poo and wet shavings It can be even in the dirt. e.maybe this baby had some internal problem but while the chicks are little i would use medicated feed as it is very common for chicks to die of this.I have seen more than one person on here loose all their babies to this as they wanted it all to be natural. from day one and it becomes a disaster.Vinegar is fine but doesnt take the place of the cocci medication and isnt the same.I would take Kels advice to be safe while they are little

I just wondered if it was pasty butt. No one has mentioned that and I am new at this so I would like to know. I'm using organic for my older chicks but for the babies I am using chick starter with the meds in them.

Oh good medicated so no threat of cocci to the others.Humm in that case ..do you feed any treats? If not i dont know.Pastey butt is just a symptom of loose stool not what is an actually cause. If the rest are well i would guess that he had some inner problem which is sad but better than a disease that would hurt your other chicks.Might have even been allergic to something in the feed who knows.
Did you ask in the disease section of BYC? Maybe some long time chickener may have an answer

Quote: yes they more or less gave same advice and came up with the same as the others are fine ?? i would like to think that nelly was just not strong enough and yes something didnt quite work and as a result some inner problem was to blame . all 3 of my other chicks same age have lovely fluffy clean butts may i add

I will be putting my last eggs in lockdown on Thursday. 3 more Paint Silkies and One Partridge egg fro my new HatTrick partridge pair. The hen laid this one egg the day she got there and no more since. When She starts laying again I will probably try another hatch but if not this will be the last one this year. Really hoping to have this partridge egg hatch!!!!
