awwrrr thats good to know , i will watch them in the morning but cant wait for day 2 thenI slipped 3 extra chicks in with my broody last week--she had hatched 4, the new ones were about two days younger. The first morning she seemed less attentive to them than her other chicks, but not hostile--it was almost like she didn't see them. But by the second day, they were all family.
I will be putting my last eggs in lockdown on Thursday. 3 more Paint Silkies and One Partridge egg fro my new HatTrick partridge pair. The hen laid this one egg the day she got there and no more since. When She starts laying again I will probably try another hatch but if not this will be the last one this year. Really hoping to have this partridge egg hatch!!!!

The baby duckling is doing really quite well. And a second one has a good pip going, so all hope is not lost! Yay!
Just for information are these shipped eggs or laid eggs? I am trying to find out if broody hens do a better job at a good hatching rate over incubators. Congrats.I have nine hens that are broody and all together are sitting on 48 eggs cant wait. They'll be hacthing in two weeks time.I'll post some pics when they hatch![]()
Oh Kay, I just LOVE that top silkie cross hen. She is gorgeous!!!! If the chicks are very close in age I think it would work. Just slip them at night if you can. Just make sure she accepts them. I tried that with a couple of hens and they pecked the one I was trying to sneak in - I couldn't have that sooooo........
My Cee Cee girl just takes them all in. She is a terrific Mom! She wasn't in Mother form at the time or they would hae been given to her. Cindy, the chicks she's raising at the moment are Silkie Ameraucana crosses, and one Serama.
Thank you all for the compliments!!!![]()
Here's a couple of shots from my two week old Catdance babies:![]()
