HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

well its day 23 and i have 4 new silkie chicks , 1 black , 1 cuckoo and 2 gold i think . i have just water tested the other eggs and dont know if i have anymore ?? what shall i do brook any advice you can give me ?

I wanted to share that we did a water test on the unhatched Bantam Cochin egg that was over due by two days. It showed good growth in candling, but never pipped. When I floated it, it moved! So I waited another day and a half. By that point it was over four days after the other chicks had successfully hatched, so I gave up on the egg. My DS and I decided to do an eggtopsy and see what had happened. We carefully cracked open the large end, and saw the membrane. Then when we tore through the membrane, the embryo began to breath! YIKES!

I freaked and put it back in the incubator, knowing it was probably a lost cause, but I felt really really bad. When after a couple of hours, the chick stopped breathing, we opened it up the rest of the way. Turns out that the chick was not properly formed. His face wasn't put on correctly: it had a twisted beak, and one eye was normal, but the other was huge, with no eye lid.

So it made me feel much better that I didn't do him in, he was never going to make it anyway.

and my silkies hatched a day early on 20. I would give them until 26 and then call it.
