HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

I am renovating an old shed we had with scarp lumber.... A little intimidating to publish photos after seeing Lisa Pedro's chicken palace! That is so neat! when it is all done I am hoping for high function tho. I saw a roost with a shelf underneath filled with sweet pdz on another thread...have added that to my list.
We won' t have a chance to get the run done yet, just have to make sure I get my brooder cabinets cleared out for my new chicks. I figured that I would not have more than 10 hatch, but it looks like I have a few more headed to lock down than last time... And I had 16 make it out of their shell that time. Hoping for no hatching drama and healthy chicks!
I am a little worried about warmth for my hatches next week. It has been getting down to the 30s at night here. I use those brinsea Eco glows for my brooders and it recommends use with temps 50 and above. Any of you from the cold north?
Glad you like the coop, I feel very blessed to have it. Please post pictures of your project. I did not post mine to make anyone feel bad. We could only have it because we did it ourselves. We could have never afforded to have someone else build it for us. It took alot of weeks and I used scraps were I could. The roosts are from my miniature horses old house that we tore down because of termites. The "poop" board was an old sign/bulletin board thing. Plus I always save small pieces of 2x4s from other projects. Well they all got used. I searched through the "cull" wood at Home Depot every time I went there. I just bought several 4 x4 foot pieces of plywood from the cull section for .51 cents each! Then had Home Depot cut them in half so they were 2x4 foot so the fit in the car, lol. That's what we made the new nest box of. Plus we had an old window here. Sometimes people have stuff on craigslist too. My husband said we probably spent about $500 in materials and a good part of that was the roofing. He thought it would have been $4500 if someone else built it for us. So post your pics, we need something to talk about while waiting on chicks!

Ok, I helped my last one out... it was not going to get out on it's own. Now it can't stand or get out of the fetal position. I have been doing PT with it and it is getting better..but still not good enough to survive. I gave a drop of my infant's vitamines. If it doesn't get better by tomorrow I will have to cull it. I swore off helping chicks... I don't know why I did this time...

ok.. so mom is doing well with all her various aged adopted chicks....lol

The star is a Golden Lakenvelder about 2+ weeks old
The 2 Red Triangles are BBS Ameraucana about 1+ week old
The yellow circle is her very own chick. She is a PR game fowl and dad is a EE/Hatchery Ameraucana..(you can see him in my pics..)
The rest are all incubator chicks that I slipped in last night. They were set the same day she started sitting.
None of my Super Blue Layers hatched...boo for me. (Super Blue Layers are DMRippy's cross of a White Leghorn and Ameraucana or EE Roos)

Bellow is the Lemon Cuckoo Orp chick

I'm sorry about the chick...hope he recovers. What a amazing mamma you have there. You are starting another incubation with the weathens? Best of luck with that. Have great experiences with shipped eggs from georgia. That lemon orp is beautiful!!!!

Oh, do not feel quilty, nobobdy feels bad. We are excited for you. You've built a beautiful coop/run and I tihnk the best/neat part about it, is that you did for the most part reuse or upcycled materials you already had.

Yes, how exciting for all the little ones. I too hope the little makes it. Being so new at this myself, I'm not sure I have it in me yet to "cull", that would be so hard. I also wish I had a broody hen, but mine ae all too young at this point, we haven't even gotten any eggs yet from the hen coop. I have a feeling though that we will be wide open come spring time and have possibly more on our hands that we can handle.

yes, I already started those. I ordered 10 and she sent me 16! So I hope they hatch. Also, I think I am getting DMRippy to send me some more SBEL cause I really wanted those...

I loved seeing your coop. It is great how everyone's ideas get shared on here. You had mentioned creating your own plan after seeing the coops posted on the threads. I did the same thing with my brooder cabinets. I also love scrounging. We have a habitat for humanity restore near where we live. I go in there weekly for " treasures". My comment was meant more to let you know how much I admired your work. Sorry if it was taken differently.

We were lucky to have an old shed to convert. I lost my right hand man because he has been I'll. So, my dad is helping me out. I built most of the brooder cabinets myself, but am not confident with my floor framing abilities. So, I will post Picts of my temporary coop status later tonight hopefully. ( I am still at the hospital with dh so not sure of tonight's progress). And, because it will be a work in progress, perhaps I can pick your brains a bit too.

WOW 16 gives you more chances. I also want more from DMRIPPY. Ameraucana ones. My battor is full of her eggs and I want more...lol. Out of the 28 I think only 11 or 10 are developing but I had a spike in temps 3 days ago. I had many more developing and yesterday they seemed left behind. I think the temps going craizy killed them. Not loosing my hope completly but I'm not counting those in the 10 or 11. If some of the rest hatch they are not expected.... but gladly welcomed. lol

Thank you. I did not take you comment bad. Just did not really want to seem like I was showing off, but I am just so happy and blessed with this coop. I have bought stuff at Habitat for Humanity before. I don't get there ofter since it is so far away. Post a picture of your brooder cabinets, I would be interested in see them. I have to build something for in my shed. Family does not want the cute little smelly fuzz balls in the house anymore. So I am incubating in the house and then they move out to the feed/tack shed into the Guinea pig cage. But I need something better.
I am praying in Jesus Name that your DH has a total healing !
