HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

What was your hatch rate with the shipped eggs Brookhavens? This is the first time I have EVER candled eggs before I put them in the incubator, but from what I could tell, I had 35 perfect eggs - No cracks and all aircells were in place (at the fat end after sitting for 12 hours, pointy nose down), other than a couple pourous eggs (which I've heard don't do nearly as well, but can still hatch) I think all the eggs were perfect.

Lisa Pedro : My plan is just like yours - after several botched hatchings (with our own "Mutt" eggs), we eventually figured out that, for us, dry incubation gave us significantly higher hatch rates in the Little Giant. I think living closer to the coast means higher humidity. We're at an average of 70% (in the natural air). We only add a very little water in the last couple days when we move our eggs into another "hatching" incubator (another Little Giant

Having never paid for eggs, I am now really struggling with doubting ever decision I make, checking the temps every hour and wanting to candle every day

I want to candle because it is interesting, but not sure it will make any difference. I have read you can add more humidity to improve and aircell but is it at the expense of the other eggs? I keep thinking it will make me worry about something I have no control of.

Still figuring out how to use the quote function...think I deleted the end function...so no color change on this one....

QUESTION about the "pourous" egg comment. Does that refer to the eggs that when candled look like they have little bubbles all over their surface? I have had a few like that and wondered what it was.

Also, those dark eggs you received look amazing! I have marans eggs set right now, but they are no where near that dark!

I had a terrible hatch rate. 7 went into lock down, 2 pipped (1 on the wrong end) and only 1 hatched. When I did the eggtopsies the one that had pipped the wrong end was huge (not due to humidity issues either) and couldn't turn in the egg. One had quit on Day 17 or18. When I had candled right before lock down this one was questionable because I saw no movement. The other 4 quit on day 20 or 21. None of them had turned or internally pipped so I know they did not drown from too much humidity. I have no clue as to why they never hatched. There were no temperature changes but I did raise the humidity to the low 60's.

. Are any of you using a brinsea Eco 20? Today was day 7. I went to candle, but because the eggs are stacked leaning on each other in order to fit them in, it was awkward. I only candled 12 out of the 24 marans because I was afraid of jostling them around too much. Anyone have a trick to it? Do you stach them back in leaning the other way? They look line leaning dominos.

Anyways, out of the 12 marans I candled, it appeared only 2 were clears. Tough to tell on the dark eggs, I was never able to see any veining with my last hatch, and I was a candle aholic that last time.

Out of my 7 americauna eggs in the mini brinsea, 3 were clears. My daughter would like to show this breed, so I am crossing my figures that all four will hatch.

Ok, I candled my eggs. Holding the egg with the large end up and the light at the bottom. There is a shadow at the upper portion that is sort of on the side. Is this the aircell or the yolk? And should it move at all? Thanks.

i think i know who you got those eggs from...lol

.... first time I have EVER bought shipping eggs, and if they don't hatch it will be all my fault because they arrived SPOTLESS. I am so so so chuffed (english expression for VERY happy) with the shipping experience!! Super nice lady

From what I read the yolk should "float" on top of the whites so it should move.

Day 3 for me, first eggs EVER... 5 cream legbars. Would have been 6 had I not accidentally cracked one

oh that is so yukky!!! I hate that!!! Are you using the giant again this time round (sorry if I've already asked this, I can't remember if you're using the Brinsea or Giant)?
