HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

For those of you having problems with keeping the humidity up try using an old t-shirt. Wet the T-shirt and put it in there all crumpled up. The surface area of the T-shirt is larger than the sponges and will create higher humidity.

I have two wet sponges in there already and the water reservoir was full when I locked it down yesterday.

Would it be worse to open for a few seconds to add water or let the humidity continue to drop? I mean a drop from 75% to 57% and I know it will continue to drop unless I add water. I just don't want to injure the babies one way or the other.

squeeze something through a vent hole to get water in there. Like a aquarium tubing .

hahha -off the subject but how do you get the info. that shows up below a post you make that shows were you've put in information about like what breeds you have, links to other things etc. shows up in grey. Know what I'm talking about?
thanks

Oh please take a pic of all your eggs when you get them - that is going to be toooooo exciting for words!!!! Surprises are the BEST!!!!

That's exactly what I am incubating!!! We will have siblings!!! I'm very excited also.

Guys the humidity in the incubator is dropping fast. All the red plugs are in. I know "lockdown" means no opening and closing, but how do you maintain your humidity levels? It has been very dry this year and very low humidity though we have had high humidity the last couple of days. What should I do?
CRITICAL...You gotta have it at least 65 (I prefer 70 to be safe) or the babies can shrinkwrap when they start to pip.Have any pipped yet? If not you are in good shape.
You will have to sneak in a wet wash cloth or rag or something and a spot where you can add water if you need to.I add two 4' by 2 or 3 " t shirt material lrags wet and it does a good job. to keept it up to 70-75 .
Do you have a ittle hole with a straw in the bator to add water?
If not next time make one if you have a styrofoam incubator .
Use a syringe to put water in the straw.Or some ppl use clear tubing. Anyway if you have a hole put the rag under the hole so the straw can add water on it and not open the bator .
If you dont have a hole i would put the rag near where you open it and then to keep it wet crack the bator when the humidity gets low and use a straw or turkey baster ceack the bator .squirt it in Once you add water wait about 15 minutes and see how high it comes up. you dont want it over 80 for sure..
More critical to keep it at least 65 than to NOT open the bator a crack. but do it fast ..

Sounds like ou havr had chickens a long time.Question...a friends hen just started laying 2 weeks ago. Now it went broody on the eggs she wondered if the could be fertile since she just started laying. She does have a roo of course.
Anyone else who knows please add your comment too.
My girl started laying... i collected her first egg and 5 more and put them in the incubator. Only one was not fertile. Some people say to not hatch the first eggs as there may be more chance of defects but others say they do it all the time with no problems. Guess I will see when they hatch :) Only a few more days!!!

Chicken PR is totally right if you dont have a hole made for a straw use the vent hole ( not where the fan is though )and a straw to add water or tubing. turkey bastor or large syringe .Don it NOW 57 is TOO LOW!

BROOKHAVEN is right on.....sponges dont help me ..the t shirt materal is good. Also as she said ...the humiditt comes from the AREA covered not the DEPTH of the water..so you need more surface areas wet..why a t shirt wash rag works well.
