HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

I candled last night and my incubator stank....the smell was bad but not unberable. So while candleling I took out all the ones that are not developing and left 7 that are growing strong and 3 that I think quitted but I giving the benefit of the doubt. And found the culprit ...one egg was oozzing a smelling stuff. glad I found it before it cause damage.

Kays- I'm sorry about your chick. I think is a matter of waiting and giving him time. You gave him vit and water. I would give him exactly that. Good luck and keep us posted.

??
Kay i had a chick who wasnt quite right the first hours and gave it the vitimins and a little water with a dash of crumbles very watery in it
.Just a few drops at a time. He didnt want to take it either .
i put a tiny bit in the side of his beak and then 1/2 hour to an hour later or less some more FEW Drops each time tiny drops so didnt drowned him . Eventually he did get stronger and is now in with the others
He is a little smaller but not too much and he walks fine now.at 3 weeks Actually walked pretty ok by day 3.
Was taking 2 weird stiff steps sitting on his feet at first and falling over asleep.Couldt walk more than 2 odd steps without going to sleep.
Used the water b/c after a day or so they need it and figured it would help not just the vitimins to get liquid in him.
Does he know to drink water.? Funny he was good and now isnt .
I would add the water with fine crumbs in it. See how he gets.GOOD LUCK!!!

Well, I guess the old saying "don't count your chickens until they hatch" seems to sure hold true here doesn't it? Out of two dozen eggs I started off with, I had 6 that hatched, and two more that quit. This morning I lost this little lavender beauty, so I am down to 5 now:

I hope the five I have left continue to thrive and will get to adulthood. They sure are beautiful!

Thanks all for the concerns. I just lost my Dad the 29th of August and then my kids' father just had a heart attack and is still in the hospital. I didn't want them driving in their upset state so I drove them.
Fur N Feathers I lost my dad 4 years ago. I was taking care of him and my mom and he had renal failure. It is horrific and I know the pain you are feeling and then to have the father of your children have a heart attack on top of that you must be reeling from all the emotions. "Father comfort her and give her strength for You are our strong tower. In your wings we find shelter and rescue from all that comes at us. Be with her children Lord and settle their hearts and let them all know how much You love them. In the name of Jesus, Amen

I hope the rest of your chicks remain strong and healthy. I have one lavender chick and I know I would be so sad if it passed as I would any of these 4 day old chicks. Blessings. ~ Cindy

Looks like my last egg wont hatch :( I took the other chicks out of the incubator this morning and checked that egg... really didnt see anything moving but I will leave it or another day or so. Any way.. my hatch was interesting. I am used to hatching only standard colored Silkies and this time I did a paint to paint breeding.
the colors are interesting :) One paint, one black , one white with no black skin or black legs and beak and on ??? color. The questionable colored one seems to have a leg problem. Not spraddled or curled but is walking on the hock on the one leg ?? I cant feel where there is an injury... They are close enough together. It is getting around sort of hopping... hope it improves soon.
OH SO CUTE Dont you just want to kiss them!!

Yes it is an Araucana. I just joined in July and normally if I join a forum I am a lurker too. Everyone on here that I have met has been so pleasant and helpful that I have to pass it forward. These hatch-alongs are a lot of fun even if there is heartbreak involved. We learn so much from them from everyone's experiences. When I started my first hatch I just wanted chickens for their eggs. Decided on Barred Rocks and RIR's. Never in a million years would I have thought I'd have Silkies, Marans or Araucanas in the bator. I never realized how many people really enjoy their chickens. I am so glad that we "hatched" you out of your shell....LOL. It's all about having fun in this crazy world we live in.

I just started with chickens in April of this year. I know nothing but I am learning so much through all of you. It's exciting and I sure do love my Silkies!!!

Those are the brinsea Eco glows. That is what I use for heat... Although it doesn't take long and they use it to roost on and as a poop shelf!
Okay cool. I have silkies so they are suppose to be really good in winter conditions. I live in GA so I am hoping they will all do well with no heat this winter. I do have my baby chicks in my potting shed with two heat lamps and an electric heater running full on to try and keep the shed at 95 for those little cutie pies.

And we have our first hatch!! To those of you questioning the carton hatching method you can see this chick had no problem hatching. Note the humidity on my hygrometer (56%)the chick was born perfectly. Not too wet and not too dry. Looks like this is where I will be keeping the humidity for hatching from now on during lock down.

HOORAY!!!
wee.gif
Sucess ..!.your humidity must be perfect!!!! There she is to prove it AAWWWW!!!
I made some humidity mistakes bad ones like 60 for the first 2 days and kept too low down to 22 about 5 times .. . plus 2 times up to 56!! too high to me.GUUUH.....no chicks.

My Genesis keeps the temps perfect so has to be shipped or humidity to loose all 18 eggs (its day 22 now had 3 in lock ...nothing )
