HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

ALL OVER THE PLACE. I was using a technique that was recommended ie don't increase humidity until 1st pip. Thru the duration of the hatch humidity was pretty stable at round 40%. I had no water in there at all. Then I added. Tsp of water at first pip and couldn't get it up to 60% so I kept adding water ......ohhhhhh boy!!! Then I couldn't get humidity down and it was sitting round 77% !!! I was also reading humidity with a digital hygrometer which I think wasn't giving me an accurate read, but I was too far into hatch to change things

If nobody hatches do eggtopsies so you can see if they may have drowned or died some other time .
Brookhaven says to start at the air cell end so you can see if they internally pipped. GOOD idea. Its all a learning process and can get pretty frustrating too at times when you dont get hatches
My Last hatch ...none hatched..... just threw them all out day 23... i was so discusted ...well i just had 3 eggs in lock and only one looked really good but ididnt pay much attetnon ot myu humidity so ..what did i expect.?.
But if you are on day 21 they still might hatch as someone the other day had hatches day 22 and 23!!!
Also i dont know about in Florida but i have run my hatches 75-76 sucessfully so maybe thats not it and maybe it is.... as i think Brookhaven whos from Florida like you had drowned chicks when she went that high.
I am sure she can comment here way better than i can .Sorry!..... but keep the faith!

The little crack is called a star pip i am told. b/c they often crack in a star shape..GOOD LUCK ...the fun starts!!:pop

Ah, thanks. I had read of a "star pip" but didn't know that is what it was. Thanks! And BTW, got another star pip, apparently, while we were watching Survivor :D how appropriate! Now have pips on 3/4. Must.... Go....to...bed......

Just popped on to tell you the sad news that I awoke this morning to find Pootle had passed away in the night

. He was the only one to hatch out of 6 so it's a such a shame. He seemed fine during the evening. RIP in chicken heaven

Rip little pootle have fun in chicken heaven with all those other chickys that didn't make it love to ya welshchick

So grateful, the first little chicken waited till we got up this morning to hatch. We all got to watch. Hoping the other two will be out when we get home. And still have hope for the fourth, but still nothing yet....

I am so mad at myself right now. My #2 egg had pipped yesterday afternoon and showed no signs of anything happening until earlier today. It finally started making the pip bigger and as you saw it had zipped 1/2 way but then it stopped. The zipping was moving along very quickly too. After an hour of nothing I thought maybe I should help but decided not too. Big mistake on my part. I had errands to run this afternoon and when I got back there was still no progress. I decided to help....too late. When I peeled the shell off the rest of the way and pulled the chick out it was gone already. No clue why it stopped zipping. It had absorbed the yolk and everything inside looked fine. It's umbilical cord had even detached like it should have. I always try to let them do it by themselves but this is one time where I definitely should have helped.

Now the good news....2 more of the Silkies hatched. A Black and a Blue. These 2 could start a chorus they are so loud!! Right after these 2 hatched 2/5 of my Marans eggs pipped and one really wants out!!! Today has been one crazy day and it is only DAY 20. Looks like I am in for a very busy night.

today is day 21, I'm using a brinsea eco20 at 99 degrees, temp did go down at lockdown to 98, so I'm hoping they are just making me wait a little longer
there was one tiny pip today but no movement, so maybe maybe maybe???????????
