HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

My cockerel, Darkness, had it first. Then my girl, Mohawk, who is scared of her own shadow, freaked out after the mean sizzle girls picked on her and she started with the wry neck. I treated them so many times a day with the Poly-vi-sol, Vit E and Selenium mixed in water and used a dropper. They made it and I'm so glad.

I don't know anything about Araucanas and that double tufted gene. Can they be tested to see if they carry the gene?
I am sure they can test for it but from what I have read and in talking to people most die in the shell during lockdown. If they do hatch they die within a matter of days.

Brooks I wouldn't even know what to do if something like that happened. My partridge was struggling to get out and I wanted to help but didn't know how...I tried to pick a piece of shell off and then the chick chirped so I stopped. Thank goodness it made it on it's own.
My very first hatch I had to assist a chick. I read up on everything I could how to do it. I was scared @#$#less when I did it but when I finally finished and put the chick back in the bator I knew it was worth it. SYA (Saved Your A**) is now the leader of the pack. They do chirp and wiggle in the egg while you are doing it. As long as you take your time and focus on what you are doing it's not as bad as it seems.

Came home to a pip and a half? One has got a hole in the shell and peeping. The other is just barely a crack. Does this count as a pip? Oh it is almost exciting, trying not to "count my chickens"

Soory Brook but perhaps it had some disability... bad heart etc that made him stop zipping.NATURES WAY You said you didnt find a thing wrong and he was 1/2 done not stuck!
.Also your other with the fit...i think you might be right if he started off well some internal thing went wrong there for sure.Might very well be that gene.... pretty suspecious
You do great job on your babies
By the way i LOVE the adorable pics of your first babies.. Chick Calender poses or Xmas cards? I am getting ahead of myself arent I? HAs fall even come yet?
Love the back to back one though HAHA. Youir silkies sound like they are going great guns!!
Thanks Roxanne. Never even thought about cards. Now I will really have to do a photo session with them all.

ALL OVER THE PLACE. I was using a technique that was recommended ie don't increase humidity until 1st pip. Thru the duration of the hatch humidity was pretty stable at round 40%. I had no water in there at all. Then I added. Tsp of water at first pip and couldn't get it up to 60% so I kept adding water ......ohhhhhh boy!!! Then I couldn't get humidity down and it was sitting round 77% !!! I was also reading humidity with a digital hygrometer which I think wasn't giving me an accurate read, but I was too far into hatch to change things

I did that the first time too. Humidity spiked into the high 70's and I freaked. That's why I think I only got 1/15 from that hatch. I now add the TBSP. of water and literally walk away. I figure even if it doesn't get up to 55-60% it is more than what was in there to begin with plus when the chicks do hatch the humidity goes even higher. Get that hygrometer off of ebay from the link I gave. I bought 2 of those and they have been the best $14 I have spent. Because the guy is in Tampa I think I ordered them one day and they were here the next.

If nobody hatches do eggtopsies so you can see if they may have drowned or died some other time .
Brookhaven says to start at the air cell end so you can see if they internally pipped. GOOD idea. Its all a learning process and can get pretty frustrating too at times when you dont get hatches
My Last hatch ...none hatched..... just threw them all out day 23... i was so discusted ...well i just had 3 eggs in lock and only one looked really good but ididnt pay much attetnon ot myu humidity so ..what did i expect.?.
But if you are on day 21 they still might hatch as someone the other day had hatches day 22 and 23!!!
Also i dont know about in Florida but i have run my hatches 75-76 sucessfully so maybe thats not it and maybe it is.... as i think Brookhaven whos from Florida like you had drowned chicks when she went that high.
I am sure she can comment here way better than i can .Sorry!..... but keep the faith!
When I ran the humidity by the books I drowned a bunch of them. I contacted a few people on here that lived in Florida and all of them said to only add water at first pip.

Just popped on to tell you the sad news that I awoke this morning to find Pootle had passed away in the night

. He was the only one to hatch out of 6 so it's a such a shame. He seemed fine during the evening. RIP in chicken heaven

I am SO sorry to hear about Pootie. I know how you feel. I felt the same way with my single Araucana chick. Fine 1 day and then gone the next.
