Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

I have been following along with all this egg swapping going on and am now in love with dewlap toulouse. I'm a newbie at hatching and don't want to take any chances on failure so I skipped all the guess work and just reserved a pair of adult sq Giant Dewlaps from holderreads. I love that distinguised look of the Gander on their site. I hope mine has 'the look' tehe. Now I'm anxiously awaiting fall.

geese are as bad as human babies I think

Question for those who brood goslings indoors. What type of flooring do you use? I have been using towels, but in the past few days, I have noticed their toenails getting caught in the threads when they walk... and that is not good.

Sue... it seems like it takes forever and a day for these guys to hatch!

Ian, I use those soft rubber puzzle mats. Very good traction, easy to cut to size, easy to clean. Bedding goes on top of them.

For the first couple of days I will use paper feed sacks, if I can get them, or else I use paper towels. Roll them up and into the compost bin with them. After a few days, I can switch to pine shavings and the goslings won't eat them. Shavings are scooped out with an ash shovel.

Brown paper grocery bags might work. I'd have to test the slippery coefficient of them before using them.

I use it too, BTW. Its good for all birds, and that non-absorbent non slip shelf stuff can be rinsed, steralized in bleach water, rinsed again, and reused. Its especially good for ducks and quail, but I personally havn't used it for geese, but I'm gonna in about 30 days!!!

Boy there were a lot of posts for me to catch up on. I have added a new animal to my place. I found out that I am dairy and gluten intolerant and I went out and bought a 2 year old milk goat Saturday that had just come fresh the week before. She has kept me busy. I had to check all of the pasture fence, build a stanchen to milk her, round up the stuff to milk in and to strain the milk and store it, get her feed, pans etc. I am also still building my Chicken coop (I have the roof left) and I am incubating two incubators of goose eggs.

I weighed my eggs and after 10 days they had lost 5% of their weight. Tonight I am going to candle them to check on how they are progressing. My humidity has been fluctuating between 35 to 45%. It is pouring down rain today and so the humidity is up. It sounds like everyone has eggs started.

These are our geese... These are the rare Pilgrim Goose. OURs are sitting on eggs already and they're only 1 year old! They matured really fast it was supposed to be 2 years! But we have them on some really good all natural foods. This post was in reply to the thread starter's pictures of her geese, they look just like our pilgrim geese.
