Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Luna is here. My little light in a dark time, hatched this morning for us, and was our alarm! My dewlaps due in a few days are all tipping nicely. The other Erin egg looks to have died at the last day or two.
Luna is adorable

Morning update: Day 31 begins in 4 hours. I have 3 eggs with external pips and egg #1 has created a big hole. My wonky air cell has not pipped yet, which I find a little weird, but do not plan to assist until the healthy ones hatch on their own.

Marty, love the name... and love the baby!!! So happy about your dewlaps getting ready to hatch too. Nothing like new babies to bring the cycle of life into a more positive light.

Celtic, great story about your strong eggs! I wish all babies hatched out that easy!

Mrs. Magoo, good luck with your flock management circus. I know exactly what you mean since I am trying to juggle around 27 birds here.

Jerry, I understand. No doubt Carole will have dewlap eggs next year. :)
I sure she will really wanting buff dewlaps

Morning all
Marty, good to see you back on here. Hope the weeks stress has gone down some.
MrsMagoo & Iain, good luck on the impending hatches.
Erin, glad Flippy is doing better
Sue y'all need to move to more land so you can just keep on hatching.
Have 4 of 7 due this week hatch already. 2 more to go, and another set due this weekend.
Here is funny, wow one for you. A few weeks back we had (still have but anyways) a Bobcat who isn't afraid of the lights on, the 200lb dog or hubby out BBQ.n on the pool deck come in a snatch one of the pasture roosters. It sent the goats a running, the African geese having a fit, the dog chasing and the teen and hubby out with the guns. So I emptied a stall and a kennel we moved everyone out of the pasture. The African goose had laid three eggs and was setting. So we moved her eggs with her, but she gave up the nest when moved. So the next morning when I let everyone out I set her eggs ontop of a kennel, finished chores but forgot the eggs.
That night we did rounds, locked everyone up and discovered the forgotten eggs. They had not been sat on for a day and half as she refused to tend them after being moved in the dark. Brought them in, candled and there was some slow movement. Stuck them in the Brinsea we use as a drier post hatch to warm them and see how they would respond. Got busy, forgot they were there until last weekend with the last hatch. BOTH were still alive!
No turning, no humidity control, just kept warm. They both hatched yesterday, completely on their own. Darn things are tuff little boogers.
your right about us needing more land... It'll be interesting to see what kind of adults those 2 will be since "they did it on their own" so far

ya'll just gotta get that cat before it stressing all of you out!

Welcome Luna... your timing is good for Marty

Congrads Marty!

I think I just sold 4 geese today.... my adult gander (not "Dad") and 3 of my 6 week old babies (2 toulouse and 1 african). That leaves me with a single 6 week old toulouse. Would it be ok to put him with my younger set (4 week old toulouse & Barley, my precious 3.5 week old buff dewlap, and their duck buddies)?

Or should I insist he take only 2 or all 4 instead??

Iain, I would be concerned about splitting up the two adults that were there before you. Geese form very strong bonds, and suffer from depression and loss when one they are bonded vanishes for what ever reason.

I would be worried about the one left behind and the chaos that may be left. They will call and search for the missing bird.

Celtic, yup.... I already called him back and explained it would be better/easier to not get the adult gander. He said he would take my set of four 6 weeks old instead.

Marty are any of these hatching mine?
Yes, Luna is yours! There is another egg, but it failed to tip and no pip, and no movement anymore. Too bad, but Luna is well and healthy, and arrived unassisted for all important purposes. (OK, I admit to breaking off a few tiny pieces of shell, but no biggie, he did the pippin and overnight hatching.)

I expect more geese this weekend, so he'll soon have buddies I hope.

I am doing ok. Dads death was unexpected, and no chance for goodbye is a drag. I miss him allready, and as his only child, we had a bond. Today is the first "good day" if you want to call it that. I look forward to every day being easier most of the time from here. Go tell the people you love that you love them. Don't miss an opportunity, my friends.

Oh, and hug your geese today.

Luna is a complete delight. Everyone wants to look, but nobody so much as moves her lid to touch her. Good!

Yay Marty!! Love hearing about Luna and today being a little brighter for you!! Can't wait to get regular updates as your dewlaps begin hatching process. I am so darn excited about them hatching for you!!

Update on my dewlaps:

Wonky air cell egg finally externally pipped... in the right place too!
Frontrunner egg has made big hole from day 24 line almost to tip... like he decided to just zip that way instead of counterclockwise. He has sticky yucky membrane stuck to top of his beak, but he has been moving strong for 24 hours now, so hoping he can make it out on his own.
Eggs #2 & 4 are working on their pip hole and looking good.
Egg #5 looks like he may decide to join the party and externally pip too.... eventually.

Congrats on the baby!

Marty, glad today was "good". I won't tell you they get better, but they get easier to deal with and get through. Thinking of you often.

Iain sounds like hands off is going to be the name of your current hatch. Glad they are getting the job done.

Our current hatch is done, time to bring down the next set for lockdown. Our son has started setting black copper marans eggs again, So looks like hatches right into June now.

So far so good... except for the 1st egg's weird shaped hole and yucky sticky membrane. Hope he starts tucking and rotating soon. He pipped 25 hours ago.
