They are wonderful geese Pete55. I am in the process of attempting to track down every known breeder in the United States and buy eggs or goslings from them in the next couple of years: I feel like a private detective since these are so difficult to find. My goal is to establish a good sized preservation flock (over 20 birds) and breed toward the SOP for this color/breed.

I got my eggs from Celtic!!! They are marked and weigh 149g, 150g, 153g, 153g, 153g. I will be setting them in 1.5 hours.... which will be 8 hours behind my toulouse.

Bator is sitting nicely at 101F (still air) and 48% humidity. Woo hoo!! Only a month to go!!

Question... just because I'm curious.

How much does the weight/size of the egg make a difference in the size of gosling to be hatched? I was noticing that my african eggs weigh a lot less overall than my toulouse, with the biggest difference being 149g vs 219g. Also is the rate of evaporation the same in that I will see similar percentages of weight loss for both the larger and smaller eggs?

Hi guys,
2 Embden and 3 Pilgrim weights are:
E1 189
E2 179
P1 136
P2 126
P3 120

Now I have a question on another batch. They are Embden (all from the same goose) I didn't get starting weights. They weighed #2 - 177 and #5 - 172 on day 21.They are in with a few different start dates. Temp is 99 humidity is 30-35%. I'm worried the aircells aren't big enough. Here's pictures.

Thanks alot!

What a wonderful selection of eggs you are all setting. My little one is externally piped this morning and has a good sized hole started. He moved up in the shell so that I could see that he was internally piped a couple of hours after I could hear him clicking. He is peeping and moving around good this morning so he should be working his way out. I will candle the others that should be piping later this morning. I am sorry some of the pom eggs arrived broken, I hope you get replacements. Good luck everyone!

Hi All

Sue - keep your humidity low and have you been cooling your eggs as this will help. Remove them from the incubator for 15 to 20 minutes daily but set an alarm in case you forget!!!!

Littledear - congratulations on having your egg pipping as its sounds like there'll be a new baby soon.

Thanks Pete. Now that the latest eggs have been in the incubator for a week do I start misting them or wait? The humidity is at 35% with out any water in the incubator. I have both of my two newest batches of eggs weighed this time. My shipped Sebbie eggs are propped at a 45* angle because of the detached air cells. I am turning by hand five times daily and rotating the propped eggs. The eggs that are currently hatching had too much humidity at the beginning so I took all of the water out so that they would loose some of the weight and the air sack would move down. I am still not sure that the little ones will survive but we can see movement so I am hopeful.

Shellie, Are the Sebbie eggs you are incubating from your geese? What line are they from do you know? I have six eggs that are Sebbie and I would like to get a really good line of these started. Your buff poms should be good looking when they hatch. Good luck!
