Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Good news Sue and shadows should now gradually increase in size as the gosling pushes against the membrane of the air cell. Im sure you'll be starting to listen for signs of the gosling breathing. Fingers crossed for you

Iain - the lady with the pair from Holderread sound ideal and seems very fair to wait for fertility to be established. Im sure you'd get a fair deal from her. Better start wiping the drool off your keyboard

Iana! Wow you guys are way ahead of me! I can hardly keep up! Would you mind disclosing the name and/or info of the person you're buying dewlaps from? I have a trio now and looking for more, but don't know if I'll be able to afford holderreads this time round. Id love to see pics from the breeder you referenced getting your ducks from.

On a side note, if you're looking for buff dewlaps, napoleonwaterfowl has kept a trio for herself but has sold all her other adult breeders. She's a youngin going into college. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone more knowledgeable though. She already has several wins under her belt and is an awesome ambassador to the breed. Her eggs are $35.00 each but well worth it. Her name is Sierra. One pair came from Allison Grell (a top breeder of buffs imo) and the other goose/hen, she bred herself and was hatched last year. Hope that helps. ;)

If you wanted to contact Allison Grell directly, her website is quackhouse.com (I'm going off memory here). She raises gray and buff dewlap toulouse, sebastopols, and dewlap africans. All of her birds are lovely from what I can tell. Her grey dewlaps are $65 each and her buff are $85 each....her sebbies are $50 and her africans are $35. She has waiting lists as well but sometimes has eggs for sale on ebay later in the season. I don't know if she's on here or not (I think so).

Whew! Sorry for the long post. :)

animaladdictions, thanks for posting all that great info. I already sent an email to Napoleon through the byc site too, but have not gotten a reply yet. I would love to get eggs from her too! Should I contact her directly through her website?

The ancona/dewlap egg seller is Thistle Down Farms in central California. The breeder is a dvm and everything about her operation is top quality. I truly hope she will be able to sell me eggs soon!

Hi Iain & Celtic

How is everyone today. Glad to hear you've got a chance to maybe get those dewlaps. So, why don't you tell me about the geese you two convinced me to join you in hatching? How big do they get? I gotta run, but if there are pics of the parents, we'd all probobly like to see that.

C u later

Marty, go back a few pages. Erin already posted pics of the parents.

A little more general information on the breed:

Production types are large (18 - 20 lbs) utility birds found on small farms and homesteads. They are moderate egg-layers (25-40 eggs a year) and are well suited to living in large gardens, pastures or orchards. However, they require protected shelter at night and during prolonged periods of rain. Ganders may be paired up with three or four geese.

The Toulouse Geese are generally calm, quiet and slow moving. They don't like to be startled or rushed. They are very trusting nature - a trait that makes them popular as pets.
They don't do well in flocks of mixed breeds; as other -- more aggressive breeds - will generally upset the gentle Toulouse Geese.
They enjoy bathing and playing in water, and breeders will also mate in water.
They typically remain close to home.

Funny, I saw it before, but at the time nobody was trying to get me to buy hatching eggs! LOL

If they come on Friday, I probobly won't want to put my in until Saturday morning. Hope my new bator hurries and gets here! I ordered it 7 days ago!
