Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Probally not.... I still have to butcher whatever we keep. But the boys said" when do we need to have our freezer empty! You can't have room for everything in yours!" I told them that they have to help. Deciding what to keep as breeders for next year is going to be a chore around here if we dont stop hatching

1st baby hatched this evening!!!!!

Within about 6 seconds of getting free of the shell, baby started traveling all over the incubator, knocking over the other eggs, and generally up to no good. I made a paper towel ring to keep it a bit contained. Is that suitable? How long til I get it out of there and move it to a brooder under a lamp? It's currently in the incubator still (little giant with a fan). Help?

Ok, so just as I posted that, I heard it smashing around in the incubator, and the little bugger is everywhere. Totally not contained by paper towels. I need some advice from the experts... Iain? Help? Pretty please?

So precious!!! Congrats!!! The baby should fall asleep fairly quickly for its post hatch nap, so you have a little time.

I have what I call a post-hatcher tank... a 30 gallon glass aquarium with an adjustable heat lamp over it. I usually move strong hatchlings to that tank as soon as they get up from their nap and really start exploring bator.

Iain, you're the best! Hopefully it wears itself out soon. It's extremely noisy. Been banging around for about 30 minutes now. Good thing is that it seems to be waking up the other egg that had pipped. I took a closer look at that little one, and it's beak/nostrils are free and poking out of the shell, but the vessels haven't yet receded. It seems to be resting right now.

How long until I offer food and water to the new hatchling?

Thanks! Yes, the hatchling will inspire your other eggs to get into gear.

I usually have mash and water available in the post-hatch tank. If I have a hatchling that I feel needs to stay in bator for more than a few hours, I offer it polyvisol/sugar water using a small spoon.

I bought polyvisol a couple days ago in preparation. Do you remember off the top of your head what the dilution is in water? I know it was mentioned several pages ago, but my computer is pitching fits tonight.
