Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

I may not have any choice but to try to integrate. The local ad for silver apples is not calling me back, so I am guessing he is sold out. Metzer is sold out of cayugas, the local feed stores (who use a different hatchery than metzer's) are sold out of cayugas too, as the hatchery they use is having the same horrible problems hatching cayugas as me.

Perhaps I should try to pair my 3.5 week old silver apple with the buff baby? Otherwise, do you have a pair of 1-2 week old silver apples laying around your place you could ship me?

Silver appleyard seller called me back and he still has the 2 week old baby for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get to pick it up at 3:30pm today!!!!!!

I'd say the Appleyards are a good choice, if you are going to go with ducks. They are calm and they are larger, so less size difference with the geese.

When I introduce a new duckling, the existing ducklings will do a lot of nibbling. But is it not biting. If you let them nibble on your hand, it doesn't hurt. I would say that you should expect the Appleyards to do a lot of nibbling.

I separate with wire (actually, I use a colander, placed right into the brooder) for the first day, so introductions are made without the nibbling. Then I let them go at it until they are satisfied and the new members admitted to the flock. Since they tend to be social. it doesn't take long.
