Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Celtic, that is really good to know. I will put Erin Toulouse with others in side yard today and watch to make sure they get along. Erin Toulouse has the strongest personality of the group and size-wise is pretty close to the african (who is surprisingly quiet and sweet), so it should work.

As for my african goslings, once I allowed them to free range with adults, the adults took them to their "sleeping spot" on pasture and the babies refused to go back inside coop. So, I put my ducks in the coop. I will have to either set up a new place for the toulouse or relocate the ducks. There are a number of shelters (natural and man-made) throughout the property. I did establish a feeding area for adults under covered porch awning and spread hay for them to sleep on over the winter. Occasionally, I would see them sleeping there, but they are hardy and prefer to free range 24/7. The flock has a new routine of hanging by day in the common area in the middle of foot traffic path, then go to their sleeping spot at night. They are not very food motivated, since they are on lush timothy/meadow grass pasture.

Barley is my very special buff dewlap baby. I want to put him with Molasses, my very special cayuga duck, since they are my two favorite "pet" birds. Silver apple buddy will get to stay with the pair too as she (I think?) is quickly turning into a pet bird being raised with Barley. Ideally, I'll be able to put my 5 week old silver apple girl with them too. She already has an identity crisis being raised with my anconas. I think she would be happier with my special group.

I do have one more question. What do I do about the other 2 eggs that haven't hatched ? Do I give them a little more time since Hatch Day was just yesterday? I have read where some people have had it take 32 days for a egg to hatch.

X2 with Celtic. Candle them when you get home. If you do not see movement, make a peep hole in top fat end of air cell and look inside. Be ready with tools, ie, something to puncture shell (I use eyeglass screwdriver), tweezers, cuticle scissors, and the most important items... qtips and warm water.

TTENTION PLEASE! ATTENTION PLEASE! Lisa would like to announce that she is now the VERY PROUD new momma of two incredibly beautiful Buff Dewlap Toulouse babies!!! I can't tell you guys how happy I am! Hopefully I can figure out how to post pics with my phone but if not, I know I can put them in my avatar. They already have tiny little dewlaps! They're just too much. I can't wait to see how Glenn and Girdie (my grey dewlap pair) take to them.

Congratulations to everyone else who just hatched or bought babies! What a blessing we all share by having these amazing creatures in our lives! WOO-HOO!!!

I am so excited......I have another little Sebbie this morning!! The other one, I can hear little pecking noises in the shell, but I see nothing on the outside. Should I just wait and see what happens?

We have two ganders a goose there, by next Wednesday we will have a 2/3 ratio. Both of the eggs we have left are doing well so hoping for 1 and will be ecstatic if we get both to hatch.

Vicki, I talked to Renee' and she said she could send you 3-4 cayuga eggs next week as she has the one duck laying. If you don't want thenm, she said she will put the eggs into her own bator. Just an fyi.

I had to toss a buff dewlap that quite on me last night. Still have 6 buffs going, 2 grays, an 2 Erins eggs going as well. Some have kinda wonky large oddly shapped air cells, which I feel sure is just seperation, but its weird. Babies are full of energy however.

I got more eggs from luckys egg seller, and it looks like only 1 of 12 is fertile. And it has an odd cell, but I hope it makes it, and is the other gendor. If not, lucky isn't as lucky as I thought.

Celtic - Almost forgot, babies are doing just great. Today they got a small kiddie pool with entrance/exit ramps. They were terrified at first, but its popular now. They also love the big space under the porch. We really like them! We're thinking about putting lucky in with them, since s/he's a pretty big duck now, and in with the chickens he brooded with. I feel sure he'd be better off at least thinking he is a water fowl. I havn't decided for sure yet, though. The anconas and runners are still too small to hang with the big duc. although once they are bigger, I'm going to either a)put them togather or b)eat lucky. I just don't see me keeping an odd duck, unless it starts quacking alike a girl soon..

Hey Marty, good luck with the up coming hatches. The goslings are old enough to not need ramps with the pools. We don't use them here and they jump in and out all day. I think lucky would be fine with them. We turned the newest Khakis out in the playpen with the next round of goslings and they are sharing 3 pools very well for the last 2 days.
