Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Here's the first 2. You can sort of see the curled feet in it on baby #2. I have noticed over the last 8 hours, they have uncurled a little. He is otherwise very strong and will thrive if I can get him to uncurl his feet, which would be amazing considering how messed up the egg was from day 1.

Here are the last two. Big babies and doing well.
so cute but how do you keep them still everytime we get camera out they wake up and move

Morning all.
Happy mothers day
Iain congrats on the newest hatch. The gooey kinda rubber cement looking ooze (for lack of a better description) is usually a sign of too high of humidity. It's basically the opposit of shrink wrap for when you assess your incubating and make adjustments for the future.
Curled toes on goslings is sometimes very similar to ducks and they uncurl. However if they aren't flat by the next day you need to help correct the feet so the gosling is still young when the correction is being made.
Three more goslings halfway through hatching here. Had 3 of the last 4 hatch uneventfully, the fourth pipped, externally pipped, punched a hole then turned downward and suffocated.
Gonna set guinea fowl this next week in chocolate and Lavendar just because we haven't ever hatched them before.

I keep telling Paulla we need rheas for the same reason

I thought the same thing about the sticky ooze, but as you know I run my bators at 30%, daily mist/cool, and all eggs had lost between 14-16%. Weird, huh. Either way, sticky rubber cement is worse than shrinkwrap. Baby #2's feet are uncurling little by little, but he can't walk on the knobs (though he tries and tries... especially when he has to poop). I read another thread where you recommended cutting cardboard and wrapping to feet. Is that something I should do today or wait until tomorrow to see how he does??

The irony is that I can screw everything up with africans and barnyard toulouse, and they will still hatch out strong and healthy, but even if I do everything right, these dewlaps are a beatch to hatch healthy. However, like the buffs, they are so sweet and worth the extra problems to hatch.

Congrats on the goslings that hatched out. Sorry about your 4th. What's your hatch date for your buffs?? Hope you are ready to assist from start to finish with them!! When you candle them if you see fluid too?

Update:

After giving the last two hatchlings a careful look-over, I have another baby with problems. It is like splayed leg, but the turnout seems higher up at hip? Also, splayed leg seems more like when babies try to stand/walk, but start doing the leg split out. This guy can't get his legs under him as he is already got the split going, especially on his right side. I can hold his hips together without resistance, but I cannot seem to fashion hobbles that are effective.

I put the two healthy babies together and am moving them to brooder room this morning, but am keeping the two crippled (for lack of a better word) ones in my post-hatcher for further care.

Any suggestions for helping these babies would be greatly appreciated.

I have a sebastopol egg, the last one, that is on day 16 the air cell has grown a little bit but weight has went from 4.9 oz to 4.1 I think that's a bit too fast, humidity has been at
40 to 50 % should I raise it a little bit and should I keep misting every day or not, I really want this one to survive.

Quick question, I have the goose eggs in bator in the house and one is seriously killing us with stink, but they are all moving inside the eggs. I think it is on the shell from when the mommy broke a rotten one in the nest before I removed them.

How can I get the stink under control???????????? Someone HELP ME PLEASE!!! gag, gag!!

aaa, I don't know the conversion from ounces to grams. You need to lose 16% by day 28, so at day 14 you should have lost half the necessary weight. Misting increases rate of evaporation.

erin, if they are not in lockdown, I don't see what serious harm there would be to wipe it with a damp warm paper cloth to clean up. Don't want bacteria growing in your bator with developing eggs.

Erin, don't know. I have not dealt with it before. Hopefully someone else can chime in for you.

Hi Erin -

If your SURE all the eggs are alive, get warm (100 deg) water, and quickly (under 15 seconds) dip and rinse the egg fast, then dry completely. It is imparitive you either get the eggs clean in a few baths (you can quick bathe up to 3x per day, but don't do the 30 second soak, that may be too long and it'll kill them. Make it quick.

That said, I've had dirty eggs fool me. The bad ones almost always kill the babies, so I wash those now before setting. If ann egg is bad, you've got to isolate and remove at once, once you smell it, the bacteria are advanced. If that egg explodes, your eggs all die in that bator.

Oh, so Luna is doing great!

I have some a pis coming in under a minute for you.
