Here we go again!

hey guess what? the BLP number 5 is not BLP! Its black with a white head and bum! I guess its a silver laced polish? Its smaller than the others and so far is out but is lying beside its shell with some membrane stuff still hanging loosely off its butt. Its eyes are not open yet though ..is that normal? Its making a heap of noise though!

I just read through the thread- missed it somehow before, but WAY TO GO! Aran.

Where's the pics?? I especially would like to see the baby BLP's...I have WCBP's and love 'em..I've been toying with the idea of ordering some BLP's- they're so pretty. Oh, and while your at it with the camera..how about showing the rest of the flock? I'd love to see what your 10-12 birds (wasn't that the original plan?) turned into.

On Edit: Just give little #5 a bit of time. Poor thing's probably exhausted.

yep that was the plan heheeheh we are up to 23 pullets of various breeds, 3 roos, 5 ducks, 2 goats and the new babies->4 silkies and 4 blp and now by the looks of it if it survives a SLP

having said that i only plan on keeping the pullets and probably only 2 of the ducks! My son and I had also talked about thinning out our flock to make room for other breeds:p

I keep telling DH I'm just going to add this one kind or that one color, and well it just never ends. I wanted enough hens to lay eggs for us, now I have more customers than eggs, I love incubating, so i want to start selling ready to lay pullets. I've been browsing the internet for a nice cabinet style incubator. I'd like to think I could make one, but I don't know that I have the talent.

sara its way easy...will take you less than 1/2 day.

Hey guys...the SLP looks like its butt is still stuck to the egg by two thin tendons/ligaments...dont think its bowel, too small and dont think they are blood vessels...any advice?

Does it (the membrane/ligament/tendon thing) appear to be attached to the chick internally? Or is it maybe just stuck to the chicks fluff? I did have one hatch that had some stuff sticking it to the egg for a while, but it ended up detaching itself. It was only stuck to the fluff & it never got to the point where whatever it was dried out. Wish I had a good answer for you.
I suppose if it were me, I'd let the chick be unless it appears too weak to help itself.

you were right...i left him alone and this morning he is free and looking great. He is now in the brooder with his brothers and sisters. So now there are just 3 BLP eggs left in the bator and the 2 silkies which i assume are toast now as they are at about day 25!

all the chicks are doing great...no sign of any further action in the last 3 BLP eggs or the 2 silkie eggs...it is day 26 for the silkies ( think they are probably goners) and day 22 for the BLP.

The little SLP is soo cute!
