Most of the time, that ordinance deals with bovine livestock. Call your local animal shelter, and ask, how many chickens am I allowed to have, and what are the property line restrictions. I am pretty sure you are safe. Especially if youve got acreage.

Do you have your coop built? Maybe, just maybe, if they saw your coop was small....and your other birds, found new homes, so that he was met with tiny, small in number chicks....they might allow it.
Barnyard animals sound like large animals...goats, pigs, horses, etc. Did it specifically say chickens?
How ever it turns out, I'm sorry for your worry.
I suspect, they would warn you first.

I see trouble in my future. Our chicks are currently in the living room. All 15 of them. I can't help it if we turned out to be good at this! We were told only 50% would hatch.

the REALLY sad thing is that our tax dollars go to PAY someone to drive around and look for contraband chickens in people's backyards!!!! seriously, like there just aren't enough REAL problems for the government to deal with?!

Sorry about your situation I used to live in a neighborhood, and we were certainly not allowed to have chickens. But I had 2 lovely hens, kept around the back yard in a hidden pen. I covered the top with green indoor/outdoor carpet, and I cut down small pine trees and lined them around the outside of the pen. Nobody knew about them, and all was well. I finally moved to the country with 5 acres, and took the hens with me.

So, while you are fighting the issue, in the mean time, you can build a nice, hidden pen for your hens. That's what I would do.
