How are your birds doing?

Anyone looking for heritage fowl for their flocks?

My chicks are coming along. I have one pullet
who is real interesting. So far no sign of a Columbian
hackle. She is one of the outcross chicks hatched 6/6.
Her siblings have nice Columbian hackles feathering out.
Which sex sprouts the longer tail feathers first? I forget.
Thanks,
Karen

I have found that it is the pullets that have the tail feathers first in my birds.
I was also wondering where everyone went on all the threads. I guess on summer vacations? :)
That is great that your birds are coming along good!

Is the new SOP thread busy?

Hello all, I had 3 iffy eggs left after throwing out the other dozen on Coronation Sussex and Basques. Tom in Pa said he will send more in Sept if i pay postage. Very nice since I believe it was the dreaded USPS that scrambled them. Well, it's day 21 and one tiny Basque just popped out. We'll see if the other Basque and Sussex make it. So cute.

Will it be ok to add this tiny one to the 8 day olds I have. They are small also. SBEL's

You usually can integrate them but wait a day or two to let the newly hatch chick get stronger. They can get stomped sometimes if they are too weak.

It is like Ron said, you can mix the chicks, if they are strong enough to handle the hustle. I do not like to mix my chicks that are more than a week's difference. Many are satisfied with up to two weeks.
