Book of the Campines
By Theodore Hewes, H. P. Clark ( full view)
IN- preparing this, the latest and most authoritative edition yet issued on the subject of Campines, no effort has been spared to make it the best and most valuable work on the subject. The Historical Notes, by Dr. H. P. Clarke, cover the ground completely and no man in either Europe or America is better qualified to prepare a chapter of this kind than is this man who predicted the present popularity of the Campine and kept advised of its developments both in Europe and America years before any of its present day advocate Theo. Hewes. An Illustrated Campine Standard in the mid-section of this book, with his lengthy and complete illustrated article presents the Campine breeders the first definite and specific exposition of Campine type and color that has been put forth. Accurate, definite description of every section, each illustrated with specially prepared drawings showing both perfect and defective shape and coloring, contrive to give the reader the most definite insight of Campine characteristics that has yet been offered.
Full-page "Hewes" charts of the kind made popular by Mr. Hewes in previous breed books are used to show correct shape and color and constitute the most satisfactory means yet attempted to attain this end.
ORIGINAL DRAWINGS
Four full-page and thirty smaller original drawings by I. W. Burgess working under Mr. Hewes' direct supervision are used to illustrate Mr. Hewes' article.
Chapters on care, management, breeding, conditioning and exhibiting by leading Campine breeders are included in this book and aid in making it the superior work that it is. Price 50c Postpaid.

I liked reading that history of the Buckeye by Metcalf. It was interesting. Esp. the color of the male and female. I looked them up.
"my hens had that brown red surface like a ripe buckeye" http://www.statesymbolsusa.org/symbol-official-item/ohio/state-tree/buckeye
"and the males were mostly almost a maroon red. " http://www.zazzle.com/solid_maroon_red_ceramic_tile-227231901166229493
I thought it was neat after all these decades to read the color the creator of the breed actually thought they should be.
They sure had a thing going with the RIR people, didn't they? The minutes of that APA meeting were most interesting.
Best,
Karen

Yes, Nettie was a tough broad! Many others would have given up, not her! Yay Nettie!

How did you read the history? All I got was a snippet with copyright restriction explanations.
oh nuts, you are in Canada. HathiTrust has a bunch of regs about allowing viewing north of the border.
It has something to do with English copyright laws being stiffer and lasting longer then US ones.
will see what I can do. This is going to take some time. Maybe next week. Sigh,
Best,
Karen
