If you've not yet used these, you should try. I got them in 2013 and they are GREAT. I'd love to see more people using them on Large Fowl in the future. They are the ABA bands. But they work marvelously.

With them being seamless, are there issues with the bird outgrowing a size but not being able to get the next size up on? I don't have bantams but the amount of info on the band is impressive. Still I like the clearness of a plain numbered band. Easier to identify from a distance.

No that is breeding - I have produced high quality production Light Sussex, that have received best English at shows. Clearly what I am doing is producing high quality birds .

While there is not a genetic relation there is a inverse correlation between hen size and egg. Let's take the Leghorn a smaller breed with a weight of ~4.5 pounds  but yet it lays one of the larger eggs. Now take a LF cornish - one of the largest breeds but lays an egg the size of bantam or a bit bigger.

I simply stated that the smaller birds will be your best egg layers I did not directly nor implicitly tell be to go breeding them. A good breeder can restore size as fast as size can be lost.

It can be if done correctly it's not something I do a lot unless I really need them to start laying.

If function followed form the poultry (and dairy, and beef) would be using pure breeding lines right now on the final generation. But beef and poultry have both switched to 4 way crosses. When assessing breeders the standard is the last thing I look at - and that is only occasionally. But yet I have one of the best strains of Light Sussex in the region.

Some people rely on standards while others rely intuition...

How would that breed even exist if the decided description did not exist? The standard describes the bird that fits it's purpose. If it's not meant to lay well, why make it lay more. That changes the purpose, and the characteristics of the bird.

Who hasn't yet found the breed they desire? It's time to contact the breeders and get on their Spring 2014 list.
Or maybe you just need help making that last decision on which breed to choose? Ask away. That's a
big reason for this lists existence. Need help finding a strain, ask.

Its a one size thing. You band them with a size the adult birds will be comfortable with, usually a couple millimeters of give space for large fowl. You want to catch them in a short window though. Just hold the bird, bundle the toes and slip it over. Its recommended to do bantams anywhere from 30 to 90 days. 75 seems about right for large fowl(at least for mine).

I can see the merits but I'm not completely sold on them. The once on always on has its goods and not so goods. Then the amount of info on a tiny band means smaller font, not good for my eyes unless I actually catch the chicken.
