Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

Wandered...walk or move in a leisurely, casual, or aimless way.

Wondered...desire or be curious to know something.

Words have meaning. I should think that if this thread 'wondered', it would be a good thing.

Please don't get bent out of shape...just havin' a little fun.

An SOP thread will be great but it will still be like herding cats. If it can stay on track I'll try to get more APA people involved. I haven't posted much on this thread lately because it has wondered all over the place.

Karen, I think that is a good idea. I am already subscribed to so many threads, hard to keep up with them all. I would feel like I have to read on both of these threads. And with the new thread being an SOP thread I no longer have to feel like I can't post about SOP bred breeds that aren't "heritage"--nice!

The new section creates a more specific space. We'll keep it to APA/ABA bird chatter. The new thread is specifically named for "Standard-bred" fowl, which opens the lines beyond the ALBC definition: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/882036/a-heritage-of-perfection-standard-bred-large-fowl

Yeah, it should be wandering. I have no problem with people wondering. It's always dangerous when I post from a cell phone

Just havin' some fun Walt. In fact, I'm someone to talk! I make mistakes all the time but am just too lazy to preview.

Today I let all 24 young birds out to run around at the same time. A few minutes later I saw what looked like a drunken black flamingo chasing one of the smaller cockerels around the yard. Weirdest gait I've ever seen on a chicken. Finally got a good look at him head on. Now I know what a knock-kneed bird looks like. Yikes. No point in growing him out any farther. He will be in the next batch for processing.

INFORMATION, PLEASE? A young couple near me can not be convinced that NN's are truly excellent birds for all weather conditions. I won't give or sell them birds anyhow but they are determined to find out something about Buckeyes. They don't have a pc right now and I'm not certain it would help them much. I've searched what seems to be available and get conflicting tales, with regard to their heritage. I doubt the ACTUAL truth is known about any breed but there just seems to be a shortage of info. for the Buckeye.

I would appreciate if a respected breeder or judge could give me the 'facts' and I will relay to them.

Thanks in advance.

I certainly am not a 'snob' so that is not the reason I wouldn't provide them a few birds, even if they were crazy about my breed. They are good 'kids' with three little snot-noses of their own and their idea of feeding chicken is to fling out a bit of cracked corn at them once a day. That actually might work pretty well around here for the next 5 or 6 months but if I can help them find the breed they are most interested in, I will also try to help them learn how to properly feed chickens. (No...Not MY Pain-In-The-Butt system).

Hellbender do they live in west virginia Don Schrider is there if you have fb hes on it
Thanks. I don't do FB but my son does. The point is now moot. Jason ordered 25 Buckeye pullets and 5 cockerels for them. I guess Jason is going to pay for them too. The guy works in a lumber mill and barely stays ahead of the bills and he works around here when he can. Jason is going to help them get off to the right start on feeding and care. At least that old property they bought has a better chicken house that the one they live in. (only slightly exaggerating) but they will have their chickens.

Thanks again.

Fine thing your son is doing; proper charity! Looks like you all are going to "teach a man to fish".
