Hello and welcome to BYC! This is a great place to learn and share your chicken keeping adventures. I want to applaud you for your choice of a brooder plate over the heat lamp. I've used both and will never use the heat lamp again. Also, it appears you are using the large flaked pine shavings. Good call, way less dust. Better for you and your wee ones. Best of luck with your urban farming adventure.

Hello everyone. I'm a first time chicken momma I have a small yard in a city urban/suburban area in NYC. I have my first 5 baby chicks a week old. I have 2 double laced barnevelders 2 silver laced wyandottes and one golden laced polish. I'm already so in love... flood me with any and all advice.
Thanks in advance.
Hi welcome :jumpy I'm new to BYC also! Do you have a coop yet?

Thanks for the warm welcome. When do you reccomend Introducing a dust bath for them. They seem to be digging in the pine shavings often and I'm thinking they want a bath. I'm just not sure exactly what that should be made of
